The whole point of this article is that it is easier to get into med school if you are AA. AA's are given preference becuase of their skin color. duh, that is one of ten thousand different forms of reparations. You just want a check for nothing. Get lost and grow up |
Your opinion is moronic. If you were a slave, I'd pay you out of my own pocket. But, you weren't. I'm not one to white wash America's history, which was shameful when it comes to things like slavery. But, to say that YOU are owed anything other than an equal shot at bettering yourself, no. |
I didn't ask for a check. Racist people like you are exactly why we need Affirmative Action. I guess you presume all black people want to live off the government. |
That's part of how he posed as an AA student. He joined "black" student organizations in addition to using his middle name and altering his appearance to look more black and less Indian. |
I wasn't but it can't be denied that the black community has struggled as a result of the legacy of slavery. Affirmative action is that equal shot for minorities to better themselves. |
| My ancestors did not own slaves. My ancestors worked in industrial factories and in mines, working many more annual hours than in an agricultural setting. |
No. That is not what I said. But let me rephrase to make it clear "No offfense but if a higher SES student had her scores (with all of the inherent advantages of being higher SES), I would venture to say that PP is more deserving." Took our reference to color. |
That is where we disagree. SES absolutely should be a factor. If a poor kid cannot rack up EC's because they have to work to help support the family, that should count FOR A LOT. Blind admission is unrealistic and is not used for any other notion. You apply for a job, they interview you. They look at your resume (your background). Why shouldn't college admission be the same way? |
| Kudos to him. A perfect illustration as to why affirmative action is bankrupt and unworkable today. |
Interesting idea but when you interview for a job race and SES is not important unless it's a government job which awards points for certain criteria. |
I'm not this PP, but I also agree that your opinion is moronic. People struggle for all sorts of reasons - race/religion/birthplace, etc. You're not deserving of anything more because your ancestor might have been a slave. Immigrants come from all over the world, from some pretty horrific situations, and they aren't entitled to affirmative action the way AAs are. |
LOL! Believe that if you want. Many employers (especially many big ones around here) are realizing that it makes good business sense to have a diverse workforce. |
America can't fix this world's problems, but it does need to answer for the atrocities committed against its own citizens. |
| Honestly, threads like this are the reason that AA’s are so fed up by the doublespeak inconsistent rhetoric of Conservative Whites. Time and time again, Con Whites are lecturing AA’s about fixing the problems in their own community, addressing crime, unwed parents, blah blah. Studies have shown that the key to upward mobility is education. And there is the notion that like in day’s past, the next generation of AA leaders will come from college campuses So now that AA’s are seeking in droves to better themselves and their communities through education, Con Whites are throwing the whole Affirmative Action in our faces like it is some badge of shame. “It should be blind admission (never mind that the standardized testing scheme is biased).” “We should not take an individual’s circumstances into account when making an admission decision” (unless it benefits my child). I mentor a number of lower SES AA’s and Latino kids and I tell them to take advantage of EVERY opportunity afforded to them even if some are against them getting that opportunity. I tell them that any supposed stigma about how they got where they are is not their problem. |
| This guy is a fraud, believe his crap if you want. |
