Not the rest of the time though, right? Must be a reason for that.

If pp has sons, I bet they say the same thing every morning in the shower.

For college and for jobs! Definite advantage.

Um no, black men have the highest unemployment rate of any group. If you think that's an advantage then have at it!

Educated black men? I doubt that is true. I'd like to see your stats on how college educated black men compare to other races when you look at their employment stats.

Yes educated black men. There is no shortage of information on this issue.

I didn't see anything about majors.

If you compare something like Finance majors or Chemistry majors, I would bet anything there is not a disparity.

It really is! He shaved his head and trimmed his eyelashes to look 'black'. He said even his frat brothers didn't recognize him.

Soul Man! Classic C Thomas Howell vehicle. My how times have changed.

A timeless message about the content of one's character and the dangers of cynicism.

I wonder how Vijay is going to earn a living. Being a provocateur doesn't necessarily pay well long term.

Actually, the study was done with ethnic sounding names. Those with common AA names received fewer calls for interviews. Nobody puts their race on a resume and even job applications don't specifically ask for it. Do employers still hand out the optional EEO form where you can specify a race? I'm not even sure that's done anymore.

I personally know 2 women that used their non ethnic sounding middle names after having problems getting interviews for jobs. After changing their names, both were able to secure great job offers.

Unfortunately,I gave my daughter a very ethnic name (before I really knew it was common in the AA community). We will have to see how the job hunt goes when the time comes and if she needs to switch to her non ethnic middle name.

In one of the articles the person had an MBA and another had a math degree. I've seen a lot of young black men struggle with employment after college so I know this to be personally true.

This wasn't a study, this was a woman's personal situation. I'm aware of the study with ethnic sounding names also.

No need to worry. Asians are industrious. I think the article said he ended up getting a degree in business or something. And he's writing a book about his experiences.

can't blame him

Actually, I think he was smart!

What is your point? That it's okay to have affirmative action because of this?

I think it's crazy that with the exact same stats and a 3.1 (!) GPA, this man did not get in as an Asian, but got in as a black man. That is insane. And, it doesn't do anybody any favors.

From his website, he actually also owns a business advising people on their resumes. I'd bet he's doing just fine for himself.

Where did pp say anything about affirmative action? You have an obvious agenda combined with reading comprehension issues.

It's absolutely true. Black women fair MUCH better in the job market. Pretty well known statistics. As a matter of fact, the studies say that a white man with a high school diploma has better job prospects than a black man with a college degree.

This guy is an idiot. Apparently, he had very good grades and MCAT scores. Would have gotten in anyway. Besides, he hated being black. He said people treated him like shit. It's a wonder.

I think anyone applying to college should be given a number. Just an SAT score, classes taken, GPA and extra activities. Nothing else. No name, no state, no HS name. Nothing.

Let's see what happens.
