That's seems more like a Quranist view, and is not the view of most Muslims. Sunni Muslims view the Sunnah as part of religion. "I have left among you two matters by holding fast to which, you shall never be misguided, the book of God (Qur'an), and the Sunnah." This concept was narrated through four different Companions of the Prophet. So Sunnah matters to almost all Muslims. It is similar to Judiasm which includes both the Written Torah (Old Testament) and Oral Torah (The Talmud/Mishna). To Sunnis, Abu Harayra is authentic. To Shiites , he's only authentic if corroborated by another Companion. And to Quranists, he is not authentic or important at all. But these are minority views. I don't care what you personally believe (if you are Muslim), but it's not a fair representation of what most Muslims believe. Most Muslims believe all babies are born Muslim. That's why people don't convert to Islam. They revert to Islam. |

That hadith is in Sahih Al-Bukhari, one of the two best-rated collections along with Sahih Muslim. Sunni Muslims see Hadith as a part of Muslim theology. Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are two cornerstones of the hadith collections.
It takes years to study the body of ahadith and understand the subtleties of how they are graded. For you to pass judgment on what narrators Muslims do or do not see an authentic after a few minutes of web surfing is nothing short of hysterical. |
| Great so I expect you all think it is perfectly acceptable for a grown man to "thigh" a six year old girl to whom he is affianced based on narrations of Sunnah. |
It doesn't matter what non-Muslims think is acceptable. The sources of the faith are the sources of the faith. You don't have to like what the sources say. No one is putting a gun to your head to convert. |
So argue the points, the merits, rather than resorting to logical fallacies. |
He is asking what you believe to be acceptable. So why don't you, as someone who has touted the authenticity of Sunnah, validate your position by confirming that you believe its acceptable for a grown man to "thigh" a six year old girl to whom he is affianced. If you don't, then you are a hypocrite, as charged. |
The bolded is how they reserved treatment for Sikhs, Buddhists, Hindus, and Zorastrians. Convert or die. |
What I consider to be acceptable is not a part of this conversation. My personal beliefs are none of your business. The question at hand is what not what I believe, but what Muslims believe. I never touted the authenticity of Sunnah to me, only to Muslims. That Sunnah is theologically important to Muslims is a proven fact so where exactly is the hypocrisy? |
| Just read about thighing. I'm going to be sick. |
I almost threw up myself. |
I think you don't understand the definition of hypocrisy. Look it up before proceeding further. |
You're wrong. |
So how can you not see the hypocrisy of a Muslim claiming to be of the Islamic faith, and yet choose not to follow non-ambiguous tenets of that faith. How can a Muslim like the OP see Catholicism as a beautiful way to understand god; how can any Muslim not support "thighing" as previously described. By the way, it's okay to be hypocritical. Most people are hypocritical at least in some ways. One should at least be honest with themselves. |
Answer #1. People interpret Islam and Catholicism differently. They aren't all copies of each other. If OP thinks her husband's way to understand god is beautiful, she is in a better position to understand the non-ambiguous tenets of her faith than you are. Answer 2. I wouldn't know. Find a Muslim and ask them. Why are you asking ME? |
Huh? That's a non-sequitur. She things a certain way that is contrary to a basic tenet of Islam, and therefore she's in a better position to understand Islam than I am? How the heck did you come up with that logic. The OP can address the substantive issue that makes her position hypocritical, but thus far she either is unwilling or unable to do so. You inserted yourself in this conversation. I assume this means you were open to being engaged in a discussion, which includes exchanges and possibly questions and answers. If you don't want to be engaged in a discussion, don't post anything. Simple enough? |
