MS Magnet letters are starting to arrive

RCMS acceptance arrived in standard white envelope, came on Saturday, 1/31/15.

Just got our letters today from Eastern and Takoma Park. Both acceptances came in large manilla envelopes.

Takoma Middle rejection arrived today in regular white envelope. (sigh)

DD got into Eastern & Takoma. Both came in yellow manila large envelopes.

Median for Takoma-
Raven - 27
SCAT - 41
ReadingComp - 23

Median for Eastern -
Raven - 24
Reading Comp - 23
Writing - 23.5

We too! DC's score was consistent with her test two years ago for HGC (also rejected). Fair assessment !

Accepting of the rejection very well and moving on for local school with walking distance.

It would be nice if they would provide the median of all test scores, not just the median scores of accepted students.

Curious to see how that would help? I think that all kids who take these exams are a self selected group of high achieving kids - regardless of if they are already in HGC or not. The median for all kids who took the exam will be lower than the median of accepted kids.

Every student also get their own score in the letter. The competition is so tough that even a difference of a couple of marks from the median can make a difference. I think every student who took the exam will end up doing well in whichever school they go to because they value education.

The letter from school board(accepted, waiting listed, or rejected) does not provide median score for all tested students, only provide median score for accepted students.

Our son had been in an HGC, but his scores for the TPMS test were well under the median, except for raven. I was a little surprised how far under they were, actually! It's a smart, math-savvy group going there!

In at Takoma, rejected at Eastern (small white envelope). Surprised at Eastern (fine with it, as TPMS was first choice. But well above median in Raven and Reading Comp. 1 below median in writing.) Currently at HGC. Really surprised that it's an outright rejection vs. wait list.

That is weird. Girl? Just asking bc my boy had opposite results (accepte at Eastern, WL at Takoma).
