MS Magnet letters are starting to arrive

If you did not get it today - you will probably get it middle or end of next week.

Do not spread info that you are not sure. Someone in the other post, said that letters may be mailed based on last names (latter of alphabet.) Acceptances and rejections together.
Plus every year something is different. I know for a fact that acceptance to my older child in the past was sent from school, not central office, and in big yellow envelope.
So who knows for sure what is going this year...

But families HAVE reported receiving rejection letters today, so this is clearly wrong. Now, some people may be spreading this sort of misinformation ignorantly, and some people perhaps deliberately cruelly. Most likely what creates a distortion on this site is that the people who get acceptance letters tend to jump right on and post their good news, while those with rejections tend not to post for a few days.

If you didn't receive a letter in the mail today, you just didn't receive your letter yet.

How could you know if all of your 3 kids in HGC, MS magnet and HS magnet respectively (sure they were all accepted) ---- you never got a rejection letter.

Maybe it's different this year since it seems some people have received rejections today.

Of course not. Mail delivery across the county is not consistent. Many letters may not arrive until Monday. I believe you are informed either way.

It is the DECISIONS that get mailed for every candidate - acceptances and rejections - at the same time. However, the actual mailing happens over SEVERAL days physically. Which means that you can get your decision next week or even the week after.

According to MCPS website - you will receive the decisions by early Feb, and can appeal by Feb 21st. So, you will hear from them before Feb 15th. And obviously before Feb 21st.

What does this mean?

It means that some letters got mailed yesterday, some will get mailed on Monday, some on Tuesday - etc.

Regardless of what anyone claims - not all letters arrive on the same day and not all letters are mailed on the same day. Today some people got acceptance letters and some got denied. There will also be some who will be waitlisted. Remember there are many students who got into both programs. Which means as soon as these kids choose one program, some other kid will fill the space that they emptied.

Some kids just test, and then get cold feet once they see what dedication it take to go across county every morning at 6 a.m.
My daughter reported that she knows at least 4 kids who dropped. And there are probably more, since she does not take class with every magnet kid and does not ride a bus with majority of them like in elementary school
What is not good, that empty slots are not given to waitlisted kids if school is started. (Like kids drop after 2 weeks or after first semester, or after first year.)

TPMS came today. Large envelope, accepted. Live close to TPMS, nothing from Eastern yet. Postmark says 20850, but it could just be the general mark of MCPS -- postmark is stamped by a Hassler (like Pitney Bowes) postage machine. So, may have been sent from school. Friend's daughter got acceptance to Eastern, & they live near Eastern. They also haven't heard from TPMS yet. FWIW.

Would anyone who got an Eastern acceptance today mind posting the median scores for Eastern?

I find it so weird that people are asking about envelope size, I mean you open the mailbox and just pull out mail don't you?

Why is envelope size important? Is it just something to post about because you are nervous? ( I don't mean this as an insult, I'm just curious)

I believe 800 kids sat for the TPMS test. That is a lot of letters for the central office to get out just for one school. Whether it is automated or done manually (can't believe it would all be done manually) I would expect letters to be done alphabetically since that is what most programs use, it's easier to go back and find a missing letter or answer an inquiry with an alphabetical list.

My last name begins with a Z, we are always the last to get anything!

Can someone post median score for TPMS or RCMS from the letter.
