Not OP, but when this husband goes (leaves or dies), I am not going out to look for another guy to date or marry. I am so DONE with being partnered. I'm looking forward to being over 40 with no partner. Men are so much work.

I can imagine how DH may feel about you ....

I think she sounds awesome and content with herself. Sorry you can't imagine feeling happy without a DH!

As a man, it amazes me how sadistic, selfish, and cruel some women can be. And I speak from direct experience.

To take a page out of the DCUM playbook, you're choosing these women. Time to look inward.

The reality is that men, with rare exceptions, still expect women to do the bulk of the household work and work to maintain social relationships for the family or partnered unit and make more of the career sacrifices. Now that I'm older, I really wonder -- why would a woman get married? There may be some exceptions (i.e. men who really construct equitable relationships on all levels) but the odds are slim. Really, when I look around at people in my life, family models, community models of marriage, I see very very few that I view as equitable. The personal, social and economic sacrifices are huge. And, we can get the milk for free now.....
