So if your pool says at 6 he can't go in the women's locker room and you think even a 6-7 yr old can't go alone, what is your plan for the next 2 years after self.? |
After SEPT |
I have and more times than I care to count. My daughter was in a year round swimming program for a couple years when she was in early elementary school. There were several middle school and high school swim teams who practiced at the same time and several mothers of middle schoolers would bring younger kids to the pool to swim during practice and then herd their younger kids and middle school aged kids into the women's locker room to get everyone showered and changed. I understand the impulse, but my daughter did not want to change clothes in front of the obviously pre-teen boys in the locker room. The posted rule said kids 6 and over are to use their gender's locker room. So I complained to management every week until finally it stopped. |

You Americans, you are SO CRAZY PRUDISH.
What hang ups you are passing on to your kids if you would rather they are unsupervised among strangers than possibly see people semi naked for a few seconds? And what hang ups you clearly have if you think a 5 year old gives a toss what you look like naked. Overheard by my husband in the men's locker room: Adult male to his approx. 7 year old "come on, just get changed, NO ONE HERE IS INTERESTED IN YOUR PENIS". He's right. Get over yourselves people. And as for your kids feeling uncomfortable -- you taught them that behavior. They need to get over it too. When I was 5, and 6 and 7, boys and girls changed for PE in our classroom together and it was COMPLETELY NORMAL and uneventful. |
We've done our fair share of swim team/swimming programs, too, and no middle school boy that I have ever seen would allow himself to be herded into a ladies room like that by his MOTHER. Heck, most 5 year old boys object to being dragged into the ladies room. Your pool sounds very different. |
I changed my son in the handicapped stall in the ladies room. |
Yes. The 5yo boy isn't interested in her either. |
OK, no problem, I'll bring her into the women's locker room next time. |
I am from South America and I remember that when I was a child, back in my country, it was very common and it almost seemed the norm to change behind a towel (boys and girls) without distinction of age. You did not see anyone changing in plain sight.. So to me it does not seem weird at all. |
| Take my avg sized 7 yr old son into the women's changing room all the time. Never been an issue. DS is mistaken for a girl by most people and it's not like he runs around naked so they can all see that he has a penis. |
She thinks the rules don't apply to her. |
"You Americans." Way to get us on your side right out of the box, PP. Idiot.
|
Lady, it doesn't matter what you think about our culture. We are in America. If you don't like it, you can leave and be naked and free in your home country. |
If it's not inappropriate for a woman to take her five-year-old son into the women's locker room, then it's not inappropriate for a man to take his five-year-old daughter into the men's locker room. |
| Yeah, I just avoid all that and change my 5 yr old son poolside. He doesn't mind. |
