Why is DC fashion so boring?

Even in my small, rural home town kids colored their hair. If anything I can see people in DC being completely ambivalent to it. I agree there are a lot of people here that are status quo. But you are acting like green hair is something so unheard of that people are fainting in the street. They just aren't. This isn't happening. They also do not mistake you for a terrorist. I would never think that a terrorist would be into dying their hair green. The Taliban just doesn't seem to get into that kind of stuff. DC people know this. I think you are horribly insecure. I think you are possibly a bit self-involved to think everyone cares that much about your hair. And I'm also curious how old you are. When I was young I also thought a lot of what people thought of me. When I got older I realized how little they did think about me. People aren't that worried about what you are doing!!

At first I thought it was in my head, but others have pointed it out to me. Of course people might have seen green hair before, of course everyone has a tv and such, but that doesnt keep them from giving nasty looks. Again, I've had so many friends bring it up to me, that they are shocked by the reactions I get. You guys can say I am too self conscious but it's not the case... I visited many cities this summer and felt absolutely no animosity or shock directed towards me! In DC, I feel like a criminal walking around with green hair. People seem SHOCKED and dismayed by it. And yes, usually it's the policy-wonk looking types in suit and tie.

No. They aren't shocked. We've all seen colored hair before. You do realize this "fad" has been going on long before your birth. The fact that you use such dramatic words in you description of other's reactions makes you not believable. You've used "SHOCKED", "terrorist", "nasty looks". If this were some new thing, some new vulgar and offensive thing then maybe. But green hair? People have been dying their hair LONG before your birth. This isn't shocking. It isn't cutting edge. THIS IS NOT NEW!!!

Lol. NOTHING in fashion is new, you do realize that, right? Nothing Rihanna or Miley Cyrus does is new and hasn't been done before. But it's still shocking because trends go in and out. You seem to have a very simplistic idea of fashion.

PP, you have totally missed the point. Of course fashion always comes back around. But green hair is just never going to come back around as shocking. And to compare it to twerking and overt sexual acts is just totally not on the same page.

OP, you're reaching. Give it up. Although you probably won't get the reference, this isn't Mayberry.

Um, so you think green hair is shocking?? Seriously? You think green hair is up there with Rihanna and Miley Cyrus practically masturbating on stage? If you think thinking green hair can come back as shocking then YOU have a simplistic idea of fasion. You have to be kidding me.

I think it's shocking BASED ON THE REACTIONS I HAVE RECEIVED IN DC. Obviously I dont find it to be shocking personally otherwise I wouldnt have chosen it for my hair. Again, I think the fact that it's considered shocking in DC is strange, which is why I created this thread about the topic.

IT'S NOT SHOCKING IN DC!! You are delusional!!! Nobody cares about your hair. NOBODY except you!!! Shouldn't you be out with all your cool friends tonight? It's Saturday and your 26. When I was 26 I was out and not on DCUM...a website for moms.

I am saying it is SHOCKING based on the reactions I have gotten from passersby in DC. What is going on with the reading comprehension in this thread? And I am not talking about their stage acts, I am talking about their clothing choices, which are considered shocking by most even when they cover up.

I went out last night and not out tonight.... not that it's any of your business!
It is shocking in DC and until you have walked around with green hair, I really dont think you're in a position to say that, at all. You may not consider it shocking, plenty of people do, as I and my friends can attest! So dont speak on things when you dont have a clue what you're talking about.

You're ridiculous. My 21-year-old niece in Montgomery County routinely has bright red or blue or green or purple hair, and she dresses in steampunk fashion. She spends plenty of time in D.C. and its environs without any gawking or shock from passersby. I think you're seeing what you want to see.

Okay, OP. Your green hair is ever so shocking. None of us in DC have ever seen such a thing. None of us in all of the international cities we have lived in have ever encountered someone as fashionable as you. When you walk by we have absolutely no idea what to do with ourselves. And you do realize at 26 you have plenty of friends who like to play into your drama. OP: Omg, people are so shocked by my hair! Friends: Omg, OP you are so right and so cool!!

I don't think anyone is having any reading comprehension. You are the one who is not understanding that nobody can understand why you think people are reacting the way they are. Now if you were walking around naked I would get this whole thread.

Oh please. She does not live in DC, I'm guessing by "its environs" you mean she hangs out in downtown silver spring on saturday nights, which is not the same thing as living in dupont and having to walk to get groceries occasionally.

So I gotta ask- if you dont consider green hair shocking, what exactly would qualify? Given your logic of "anything thats been done before is automatically not shocking", I'm really curious as to what would qualify for shocking.... lol...

Okay, wait. So you are making all kinds of assumptions of people but say that someone else isn't in the position to make an assumption about you. Okay.

I can totally understand. It' typical boring DC people sniping because the vast majority of DCUm posters are boring assholes who detest young millenials and resent beautiful young women in particular. ESPECIALLY a beautiful young woman with confidence in her fashion sense. But sorry, you're not going to shake that.

I'm not saying DC people have never seen green hair. I'm sure they have. But it's just like everyone stops to look at a car crash- people in DC will always be SHOCKED SHOCKED SHOCKED by green hair in a way people in other cities aren't and that is just the damn truth. Another damn truth is that the fashion in DC is boring and it sucks and I suspect both those facts are interrelated.

Different poster here. You do realize that Montgomery County is about 5 seconds over the DC line and would be considered less hip than DC. So if that's the case, and nobody is looking at her punk fashion cross eyed, then people most likely aren't that upset in DC. Do you get that? I think you are trying to quote different posters? Green hair isn't shocking. I think we can all easily agree on that.

No, you can all CLAIM to think that. I would love to see your actual reaction if someone walked past you dressed in a health goth style with green hair. I know DCUM, and I know that this is all a lot of bluster because if DCUM hates one thing it's anyone who comes on here and doesnt fit into the soccer mom mold.

Aunt to MoCo niece here...exactly! My point was that if my niece can walk around Clarksburg without a second glance, the OP can surely manage to walk around Dupont Circle without distressing anyone. LOL!

The OP needs to get over herself. Or not, I don't really care.

If this is OP the the irony is that YOU are the one who is doing all the judging. Everyone else is telling you they have no care in the world that your hair is green. Meanwhile you just keep judging and judging. Insisting that people are judging you. You must believe that everyone is against you otherwise you aren't as cool as you think you are. Yawn.
