Why is DC fashion so boring?

I posted forever ago that I have pink and purple extensions and receive nothing but compliments. I am also a self employed creative type AND I actually live in the suburbs. Gasp! OP, I think you may want to consider how your attitude comes across to people because I think it is probably the problem here.

Oh, I also wanted to add that you do not need to follow these trends...if you are truly creative and you want to use your clothes to express yourself, you will find your OWN style. People will be much more attracted to someone really being themselves and not being a slave to the next cool thing.

I did not read the whole thread because I just can't but if you're so amazing looking and confident and such an individual how do you even notice the schlubs around you? I have literally no idea what anyone on the subway was wearing this morning because I seriously don't care. Given my crazy colored hair and outfit I'm sure people stared at me but I didn't notice and even if I did, so what? If people are looking at you like you're an alien I would put money that it has way more to do with your attitude and the vibe you give off rather than how you're dressed.

I'm the effect change PP. OP's response was such a cop out. I'm so creative and fashion forward, and everyone else sucks, so I will just sit here and judge and make myself feel superior. OP couldn't handle being in a room with fashionable people - to not about the cool of your extensions. LOL

Can I just rant about black nail polish? It's not that it's offensive and I'm neutral on the aesthetics. The problem is, every other suburban mom in my office now wears it thinking she's "edgy." Unfortunately, it's last year's look in places that actually care about these things, like last year's Chanel adverts and among NYC women.

I think black nail polish is just seen as a neutral now - the winter version of nude/classic pink. Not trendy at all now but just a basic neutral. I hate red nails on me bc I am super pale and believe it or not black and navy look better with my coloring. Not trying to make a statement.

IMO a light/transparent pink or peach is neutral. Black nails, not so much.

I dont dress sea punk! Someone asked me to point out fashion trends that dont exist in DC and I did. And while I dont dress in one style in particular, I certainly take aspects from whichever styles appeal to me and mix them into my wardrobe. But unlike other major cities, where you are totally likely to walk past someone with a really out there sense of style, such as soft grunge, you would never, EVER see it in DC. And I feel that that really takes away from the vibe of a city- the complete and total dearth of creativity in terms of personal style.

We don't have creative jobs! We spend 60+ hours a week in conservative professions. WTH do you want?

Thats what I'm complaining about. You would think there would be SOME kind of creative class of young people in DC. But it seems like its all wonks. And how can you really call a city cosmopolitan when it's all wonks? You NEED a creative class to make a city truly vibrant and world class.

One of the reasons I went into law was so I didn't have to worry about trivial crap like fashion. So sorry you live in the wrong town.
