You can always go for another degree. (The pun opportunities going in this direction are endless, so I'll just stop right there.)

From the Newt Gingrich Playbook of impressing your teacher:
"As a high school student — precocious, lonely, overweight — Newt secretly romanced his geometry teacher, a buxom, matronly woman named Jackie Battley. The furtive romance with his 24-year-old teacher included nighttime sessions in the back of a car in remote areas of Fort Benning, Ga." |
| The students parents are mow suing for $3 million. |
And laughing all the way to the courthouse, I'm sure. The teacher should be imprisoned but how's the thug damaged when he made and sent around a video of the illicit act ? |
According to the Post, it is actually $11 million. Strangely, the lawsuit was filed in PG County. I wonder if that is where the student lives? http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/parent-of-teen-in-charter-school-sex-case-files-11-million-suit-against-school-others/2014/10/28/38fa5f44-5ed5-11e4-9f3a-7e28799e0549_story.html That would be almost perfect if the District ends up paying $11 million to a PG resident who attended a corruptly-run charter schools and was on the receiving end of this particular act, which was performed by another Maryland resident. |
Suing who, the school? Exactly how was this kid damaged? Seriously, it was poor judgment by the teacher and she will pay through criminal sanctions, but the reality is he got the same thing he likely has gotten many times from some underage girls his own age, I do not think he has a damaged self-image from this. And before you ask, I would say the same thing about a 17 year old girl that got into the same situation with a 22 year old teacher under comparable circumstances. |
Now who's going to come out on top here? I would advise the parents to withdraw the lawsuit, or if they win they could pay the tuition back with the money they would win. |
Ooops! |
Are you out of your mind? This is a learning disabled child according to the WaPo article, and the parents placed him in the school under the supervision of adults. |
You sound insane. And, would you have the same idiotic opinion if it were your disabled child? |
| Aren't DC special needs students at schools in various counties e.g., PG, Montgomery? Guardianship and residency are two different things when it comes lawsuits. |
This is a charter school. Why would the city be liable? I thought charters had to self-insure. |
Isn't the Public Charter School Board also part of DC government? Or is it a private organization? As little actual power as PCSB has over individual charters, they are the governing agency, so they can definitely be sued, whether they are part of DC government or not. |
I totally agree with you, although I go further because REGARDLESS of whether a 17 yr old boy (or girl) thinks it's cool to have sexual relations with a teacher and videotape it and show their friends, there is a POWER DYNAMIC implicit in the student/teacher relationship that has to also be considered when deciding what is "consent" or even "pursuit" (by the student) and what is actually an abuse of power. And by the way PP saying you don't see the damage - there is a reason you don't see girls posting video of them servicing or getting serviced by teachers - there are also differences in the gender power dynamics in these equations. Numerous girls have committed suicide for pics or video of them having either consensual, non-consensual (because they were out cold), or straight out sexual assault) sexual contact, because just to state the obvious, there is a wholly different reaction to images of girls circulating than images of boys. Boys get commended and slapped on the back "Way to go!". Girls get called names and have to change schools multiple times before trying to hurt themselves over the vicious reaction. I work in schools and am always shocked by how easily people like first OP here dismiss the responsibility and obligation (both moral and professional) of people in fiduciary positions to not abuse their position (whether by pressuring someone or just taking advantage of their exposure to willing victims) for their own gratification. While it does affect the victim (and yes, I'm going to call minors victims, even 17 yr olds) whether they were game for the contact or not (because it being forced on them is clearly more traumatic), it actually does NOT remove responsibility and liability from the person with authority (teacher, minister/priest, supervisor, cop, doctor, etc) for engaging in a relationship or contact that is explicitly forbidden by their employment/hiring contract/professional practice guidelines. Even if the victim wanted the contact, begged for it, there is a duty to stay in the right lane and not participate. And too often, even if the victims think they were consenting, the person with authority was grooming them and making them think it was the right thing to do. Seen it too many times, dealt with too many broken students (mostly female, but some male too), and seen too many adults get away with a slap on the wrist. Disgusting and much worse, damaging. Even to those who were consenting (from their point of view) at the time or even pursuing. The fall out is often nastier than you can imagine. |
I thought it was a private organization, not positive on this assumption. They are appointed by charter school members, not DC officials. And it is not an elected body. And yes, anyone can be sued. I was just wondering if liability falls on the taxpayers of DC. Also, there might be a finding of liability, but what are the damages. The boy disseminated the video. |
