So God never intended for most of his creation to get to heaven to live with his forever? Most of us are doomed to hell because the gate He prepared for us is narrow? how awful. |
Not that PP, but the concept of "God's grace" for sinners exists in the New Testament and is a major part of most Christians' belief. PP may be sincere, but she's not mainstream. |
It is just stating the fact that people choose to sin and are too proud to admit they need help. This is the condemnation . " Light has come into the world but the people turn from the light preferring the dark ways of sinful life." The narrow gate is a message to people on a personal level not as a group. Jesus is telling YOU personally to follow him, try to do what he says and not to be swayed by popular opinion (the wide gate to destruction ). |
| ^^ Christianity is a personal relationship with God. Although the path to destruction may be wide and many go that way, the destiny of others is not your concern since it should take all your attention to clean up your own life and follow Christ yourself . |
| The general "I'm special" aspect of most major religions. The idea that a specific group is blessed because they had a certain ceremony, or is "chosen" or worships the correct version of God and therefore is better than the rest. |
Then you would like Christianity because the general aspect is " I suck and was born and will always be sinful . As a matter of fact I have no chance to coexist with pure/uncompromising love because when it comes right down to brass tacks , I care about myself more than anything. I suck so bad that God had to send his only Son to be tortured beyond belief and die so he could pay my debt which I cannot afford and he did not owe". That's the opposite of special , it's realistic, fortunate and lucky. |
| The idea that the United States is a "chosen nation", "ordained by God", "a city on a hill", that you see in many Protestant denominations. Why, of all the nations that have risen and fallen in the last 2,000 years, would a desert prophet in the Middle East (Jesus) pick us? |
sounds like depraved fantasy to me. |
