What aspects of various religions concern you

Anonymous
Roman Catholics: prayers for the repose of souls. Prayers for souls in purgatory. Purgatory. Lighting candles, saying a prayer and putting a quarter in a coin slot to make a faux candle burn for a few minutes. Priests taking the vow of celibacy. Confession. Annulments (especially odd is when the couple has been married for decades, has adult children).

Lighting candles bothers you? You think candles, wax or otherwise, should be free? Welcome, Anti-Catholic Bigot, to OP's anti-religion hate thread!

Anonymous wrote:OP, you're nothing if not ambitious, starting a thread that bashes ALL religions! I'm gonna make a guess here, that you're an atheist trying to have a little fun. Right?

I am an atheist, but I am not trying to have fun. I thought that the thread could stay level headed.
I started the thread about nice aspects of other religions.

I don't want any religion dictating government policy. Believe what you will, but don't force your beliefs on everyone else.

Also, any Christian who buys into the idea that homosexuality is a sin needs to reread the New Testament OR admit they are just using religion to justify their homophobia.

Aren't Christians supposed to read the old testament too?

Jesus was a Jew. But, in the short form: Jesus eliminated many OT rules, specifically rules about eating, but other rules when he said that the two most important rules were loving God and your neighbor.

Did Jesus eliminate those rules about diet, or was that Paul?

Not sure, but neither of them ever said a word about gays.

Their absolute certainty about topics that are unknowable.

really, if you are worried about how religion treats homosexuality then I would worry a little more about Islam than Christianity

LGBT rights in Saudi Arabia are unrecognized. Homosexuality is frequently a taboo subject in Saudi Arabian society and is punished with imprisonment, corporal punishment and capital punishment.

Which is why I don't live in Saudi Arabia.

I live in America. And there are plenty of people here who would love to restrict my rights as a lesbian because their religion "told" them to.

To me, Muslims seem to mix religion with politics, national identity and culture.
Judaism is too us and them which leads to discrimination against "others".
Christianity seems to be able to fix anything later in heaven, which to me is an easy way out.
Hinduism has that caste system. Ahem.

Christianity also mixes religion with politics. Mixing any religion with politics concerns me.

Jesus argued for a separation of church and state when he said "render unto Caesar what is due Caesar, and unto God what is due God." So while it's certainly true that some Christians mix these things despite Jesus' own words on the subject, it's not accurate to say that "Christianity" itself mixes religion and politics.

Jesus got killed due to his separation of church and state beliefs. If he hadn't gotten mad about trade occurring in the temple rather than pray and overturned tables he may have lasted longer.

Christian here, totally agree, God hates no one. However, marriage is between one man and one woman. My feeling that way does not make me a homophobe or similar.

Another Christian here. Jesus isn't quoted on this subject in the New Testament.

I'm not giving what I believe to be a Christian view on marriage, I'm giving one based on thousands of years of marriage and procreation.

So based on thousands of years of marriage, you also believe that women are the property of her husband, and that women should be responsible for taking care of her husband's family, including his parents, and usually living with them, right?

Np here. I'm a biblical Christian. I believe woman are property of their husband. I believe it is a sin for a woman to work outside the home. I also personally feel woman / girls should not be educated or able to vote.

not you're not -- more likely you're a trouble-making atheist trying to make Christians look bad for some of their old practices still in the Good Book which nobody pays attention to anymore.

I'm speechless, you are a sick person to say that . I'm in no way an atheist. I'm a biblical Christian as I call it, because I believe what the bible says.

Major religions and misogynistic teachings and beliefs. And the slippery slope of where to draw the line between religion and science. And it is ok to be gay but do not engage in homosexual relations. All of these just seem made up to try to control others for the benefit of some while pretending to have a logical explanation or sense of fairness about it. When really it is evil to preach evil while disguised as good and just.

You need to read it more closely. But then, if you are what you say you are, you shouldn't be reading at all.

Read what more clearly? I was called an atheist, I take huge offense to that. Yes I know how to read, yes I went to college and I will have to take that up with God. If I burn in hell for it there is nothing I can do but ask for forgiveness.
