Also, any Christian who buys into the idea that homosexuality is a sin needs to reread the New Testament

Christian here, totally agree, God hates no one. However, marriage is between one man and one woman. My feeling that way does not make me a homophobe or similar.

Another Christian here. Jesus isn't quoted on this subject in the New Testament.

I'm not giving what I believe to be a Christian view on marriage, I'm giving one based on thousands of years of marriage and procreation.

Except that polygamy is historically the "traditional" marriage. Based on thousands of years of marriage and procreation.

Try not to get too upset -- it's an anonymous message board. Your Christian qualities may not shine through here the way they might if someone met you in person. And some of the things said here about Christianity are so outlandish that I can't help but wonder if they are said by atheists posing as Christians

Agree, something we all like to forget. Jews were practicing polygamy in Europe until 100 years ago, and up until 1947 Yemeni Jews had more than one wife.

Lighting candles, saying a prayer and putting a quarter in a coin slot to make a faux candle burn for a few minutes. Priests taking the vow of celibacy. Confession. Annulments (especially odd is when the couple has been married for decades, has adult children).

Lighting candles bothers you? You think candles, wax or otherwise, should be free? Welcome, Anti-Catholic Bigot, to OP's anti-religion hate thread!

Heck yes, the candle should be free. The Catholic Church is sitting on piles of money. All that gold stolen from the Americas. Marble tombs. They are nickel-and-diming you, and you've been well-trained to not recognize the hypocrisy.

That's my post and I'm definitely not Catholic. But, I can reason and make sensible arguments, unlike you, dear troll. You do realize that you're talking about centuries-old history, and that many Catholic Churches are struggling today, right?

Wrong. They claim they're struggling with membership, not with financing. And even so they could always sell a couple hundred of their Michaelangelos and a golden throne or two to pull out of the hole.

That poster is definitely a troll. Don't waste your breath. This particular troll might even be, as you suggest, an atheist posing as a Christian.

I'm not a troll or an atheist . I do have biblical beliefs, meaning I believe what the bible says. Ask Jeff he would know I'm not an atheist. I don't post in the religion catagory very often but I've always had the same view point.

I believe it is extremely hard to go to heaven and that most of us will burn in hell, probably 95% will burn.

Wow. So, given that, what sins have you committed today? Seems like you've let yourself off the hook pretty nicely there!

So how does it feel living in a world where 95% of the people around you are doomed to hell? Do you feel superior? frustrated? in bad company? desirous of helping them see the light? inadequate because you are so unsuccessful and bringing people to God? Ever wonder why God doesn't allow 95% of his beloved creation see the light?

For Christians who do not share this belief of the doomed 95%, what words of comfort do you have for your fellow Christian?

This sounds like Calvinism, which is extremely rare these days.

It feels awful. Of course I don't know how many will go to heaven. I've bee told most of the beds in heaven are already spoken for as if to say there are to many people. But only god knows, I hope everyone can go to heaven.

But I do not like this world and wish I wasn't in it but god created me so I have no choice.

Who told you that?

Matthew 7-13/14

Jesus says the gate to salvation is narrow but the gate to destruction is wide and there are many who enter it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life and there are few who find it.

Isaiah 35:8 foreshadows this with "the unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go on the way of holiness."

The aspects of any religion that concern me are:

- When a religion is in a position of significant political power
- When a particular religion isolates its believers from non-believers
