Again, please keep this nice
To me, Muslims seem to mix religion with politics, national identity and culture. Judaism is too us and them which leads to discrimination against "others". Christianity seems to be able to fix anything later in heaven, which to me is an easy way out. Hinduism has that caste system. Ahem. |
| To me, certain mainline protestant religions have become so politically correct that they seem to be no religion at all. |
|
I'm really bothered when certain branches of Christianity turn it into a tribal thing, "follow us or you go to hell." Jesus did NOT preach that sort of judgement of others.
Signed, a Christian |
Christianity also mixes religion with politics. Mixing any religion with politics concerns me. |
Jesus argued for a separation of church and state when he said "render unto Caesar what is due Caesar, and unto God what is due God." So while it's certainly true that some Christians mix these things despite Jesus' own words on the subject, it's not accurate to say that "Christianity" itself mixes religion and politics. |
Well said. Also I didn't understand what oP meant by the bolded part above. |
|
The bolded part means PP thinks (some) Christians excuse their own behavior believing that all will be forgiven. S/he has a point.
I don't want any religion dictating government policy. Believe what you will, but don't force your beliefs on everyone else. Also, any Christian who buys into the idea that homosexuality is a sin needs to reread the New Testament OR admit they are just using religion to justify their homophobia. |
That verse had nothing to do with separating church and state. It was about taxes vs tithing. |
Christian here, totally agree, God hates no one. However, marriage is between one man and one woman. My feeling that way does not make me a homophobe or similar. |
Well, yes. The first (taxes) goes to the state, and the second (tithing) goes to the church. But if that distinction doesn't convince you, there's also what Jesus tells Pilate: "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But now (or 'as it is') my kingdom is not from the world." |
Another Christian here. Jesus isn't quoted on this subject in the New Testament. |
I'm not giving what I believe to be a Christian view on marriage, I'm giving one based on thousands of years of marriage and procreation. |
So based on thousands of years of marriage, you also believe that women are the property of her husband, and that women should be responsible for taking care of her husband's family, including his parents, and usually living with them, right? |
| Methodism (denomination), stance on gay marriage. |
Marriage is a government construct. Currently, 19 US states and 18 countries allow same-sex marriage. So you're right, but only in the states and countries that are still stuck in the dark ages. |
