Bush and Cheney bullied the CIA into telling them what they wanted to hear. There were dissenting voices but they were shut up because they contradicted the White House. Just another reason why some people at the CIA are glad that Bush is gone. |
The big deal is the claim that everything is all Bush's fault. Bush made plenty of mistakes. But democrats made an equal amount of mistakes that they never acknowledge.
The fact that governor Blanco sucked is also a big deal. In case you were not aware of this, the Louisiana guard and Red Cross were under the governor's direction, not the President's. The mistake the Bush administration made was to not take control of the guard and other operations when it was clean that Blanco was incapable of making any decisions. |
And again -- how does Blanco's ineptness make Bush and Michael Brown more competent? |
Can you read? Please read the first sentence above again. I said that Bush made mistakes. Where did I say that Blanco's ineptness made Bush and Brown more competent? I am saying that it is not ALL BUSH'S FAULT as asserted by the left. There is plenty of blame to go around on all sides. Blanco was the first line in dealing with the crisis and she f'd up big time. Bush also screwed up but the situation was already out of control by the time he took over. It's like being down 20 points in a football game with the first string playing and then blaming the second string for not winning the game. |
Bush as the second string. That's a telling description.
I thought he said he was the Decider. So now instead of being a decisive leader, he's only the second string. |
My apologies. I was being snide when I said that and it wasn't helpful. Here's the point. It doesn't matter if Blanco messed up at first. Bush hadn't appointed the right people to do the right job. FEMA, once it came in, was not equipped to do its job and that was in part because Bush had appointed the wrong person to run it. I am sure one of our previous presidents, doesn't matter whether he was republican or democrat, could have done a better job preparing FEMA to handle disasters of this magnitude just by appointing competent people. To say that Bush was only the second string is to make it look like he had no control over the government -- he was a victim of circumstances. Well, he did have control -- at the point when he brought in people to run his administration. |
PP, do you understand that the federal government does not generally overstep state government with regard to natural disasters? So, yes, Bush was the second string. The disaster is supposed to be dealt with first at the state level. |
But that gets in the way of the story line -- that Bush is the worst president ever, and responsible for every crisis that hit the US for 8 years, including every natural disaster. |
Right. But given that Katrina was category 5(!) and anticipating that the catastrophe would be overwhelming, Blanco reached out to the federal government and her calls for help were ignored. On the federal level, while the FEMA employees were waiting for more to be done in prep for Katrina, Michael Brown sat on his haunches bc he had NO idea how big a "5" was bc he had NO qualifying experience to run an emergency management org. |
So it doesn't matter that Bush appointed an incompetent to run FEMA? |
His boss fired him, and his own party investigated him. To say they tore him a new one is not exaggeration. So why do you want to defend him? |
PP Here. OF course I am referring to Brown, who was dumped by Chertoff. |
The Bush era is over people. Time to move on. You are still talking about things that happened in 2005 (Katrina).
Let it go. There are more important topics to be discussed. |
