Finally a speech that deserves respect. |
Very patriotic! |
A president who can speak!!!
Don't let the door hit ya where God split ya, Bush!!! |
HAHAHA! |
Nice speech by Reverend Lowery - very classy.
"We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right," So much for uniting people. |
I thought it was a great benediction. |
Just think of the outrage if a white man or woman had uttered that speech. |
Again, the disrespect of a President just amazes me. You all make me sick that speak this way about Bush. no matter what you may think or disagree about him, his policies, etc., he is still the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES...former or not. I am looking forward to see whether Obama walks on water like you all think he might do. Again, disrespectful to put such an unqualified person in such a God-like status. Actually, to put ANYONE in such a status. Sickening. |
I think it was "when black will not be asked to get back". The whole thing was a humorous twist on an old saying, one version of which appeared in a Bill Broonzy blues:
I think Lowry's take on it was a rather light-hearted way to remind us that Obama's election, momentous as it was, should not be taken as proof we have reached the promised land of racial brotherhood. |
Interesting that you think that it is disrespectful and are obviously angry about the comment when you down right disrespected President Obama in your following contradicting sentence. |
I completely agree. I think Obama is extremely intelligent and have hope that he can make some positive changes. But, to act like he is the second coming is pretty disgusting. And I hate to say it...I think he is going to let all this attention get to his head (in fact - he already has to some extent). |
How did I disrespect him? I didn't call him names - I just said he was unqualified. You are obviously an incredibly uneducated person. Now I'm just trying to pick a fight, so I'm going to bed. However, I stick to the fact that I did not disrespect him - I just put down those of you who have put him in god-like status. |
Unqualified - how do you know this?
Uneducated? Hmmmmmm.......forgive my bluntness but if you are calling Bush THE PRESIDENT as in he is the hero which is the way it comes across - I would have to think that you are the uneducated one here. Good Night. |
Obama, addressing a record breaking crowd from the steps of the capital: " My fellow citizens: I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and co-operation he has shown throughout this transition." Yep, you're right. If words used in the opening of his speech like "humbled" and "grateful" dont' speak to his egocentricism and self-centeredness, I don't know what does. Who knows, what's next? Maybe tomorrow on his first day in office, he will speak of unifying America, working hard to correct the horrible dept that Bush got us into, and restoring peace to war torn nations. Clearly signs that he's full of himself and only took this job to puff up his ego... Glad to see that the remaining few Bush supporters are trolling around DCUMs. Could it be because they're bitter republicans with no place to party tonight, or that they are just not that into things like hope, peace, and goodwill? |
Well, if a white men/women had suffered four centuries of discrimination, harassment, oppression & marginalization, they would have the right to say it based on their experience. As a hyphenated American, this was the first time that I was PROUD to be American, thank you very much, Obama and the 2 million people freezing their duffs off on the Mall for showing me what American can be. |
