Yes, they did the lottery by computer--a website that allows you to input all names and generates a random list of the names.

I went to a lottery in person last year, and for a very small number of slots TWO sets of twins got in! I had never had so much "not happy thoughts" about twins ever! I got over it, but those are some lucky twins to get two spots at these schools!

I have to say, let the twin parents have their moment when the twins are an asset. After what they go through the first two years, and the PBJ meals they will be eating when writing two college tuition checks at once, they deserve one or two perks.

I heard that the phone calls went out late morning and afternoon so we should have heard by now if we had gotten in....

I assumed that the 35 included sibs, so with that 11 non-sibs sounds right. But agree--it sucks.

So, that was it pk3. Too bad they couldn't open another class. This surely means no chance for pk4 next year either.

Who controls that the lottery process is fair and honest, if the parents in attendance only see the final product? Is there an office within dcps or some other entity that witnesses or oversees the process? Do schools using a computerized lottery disclose details about software, process, etc, to reassure families? I don't mean to imply anything about this lottery, but I'm curious.

Actually, there should be spaces in PK4 next year. It's all about the cohort size. They took a lot of 3's last year, so there is no room for 4's to join this year. On the other hand, they could only fit in so many 3's this year, but next year they will fill up the cohort size by taking in more as 4 year olds (and since all siblings in that age cohort are coming this year, they will take the new 4's all from the lottery in 2015). It's a small conciliation, but it means there is still hope for this year's 3 year olds.
