Should have put IB rather than traditional -- but IB is muh more like traditional middle and high schools than Montessori.

This could, anecdotally, be very interesting to watch in the years to come.

Are you trying to scare people? LAMB did not mentions this at the open house and said they would have 30-35 spots.

I'm not trying to scare people, I'm just letting you know. We are a LAMB family and we got a letter that they are closing a primary class and shrinking from 7 communities to 6 communities based on the fact that more families are planning to stay for elementary. This is going to impact the lottery.

No!!!!!!!!!

So maybe 30-35 spots is for those 6 communities?

Lee hasn't even started. And some people prioritize Spanish.

Why do you say this?

They probably want a "pure" montessori or something. Enjoy!

It's impossible to do "pure Montessori" in a public setting simply because the kids have to be able to fill out a bubble test by 3rd grade (Maria must be rolling in her grave). In private Montessori, they can still be polishing silver or whatever in 3rd grade because they aren't tested.

Somehow the public Montessori school has to figure out a way to meet DCPS standards and teach enough test-taking skills to show results on the DC CAS. Not easy. I think LAMB has figured out a pretty good model, plus Spanish immersion to boot.

Yay lamb! When is the lottery again?

Lamb family here with grad and current older ES student. We have been grateful over the years for the flexibility our kids have had to accelerate learning as needed. Teachers also do an excellent job of bringing successful practices from traditional classrooms into the mix as appropriate. I am looking forward to greater stability as we have a designated MS and HS track. Currently ALL schools in dc that lack a good feeder pattern suffer from high attrition.

^^exactly PP. Not having a next school to go to, leads to attrition. Hopefully DCI will be great.

Lee will be pure montessori AMI just like Shining Stars. DC is in Private montessori and they DO test because testing and filling in bubbles is a life skill. So not accurate to say that pure Montessori cannot involve testing students and that privates don't test. Clearly you know nothing about Montessori. The LAMB parents I have met know nothing about Montessori which surprised me--some of these parents were at the DC school fair in January. So I would not be surprised if people pick it for immersion and good test scores.

I will pick it, if picked, for immersion and good scores, despite Montessori.

Good luck everyone!
