Where in the constitution does it say that the government must be downsized?

In any event, #6 was a typo - I meant #9 "Bailout and stimulus plans are illegal."

You stated more than just a number. Sorry. You actually made a direct statement and now say it was a nip umber error. Obama, is that you?

Anything not explicitly listed in the Constitution falls to the states. That's why Obama calls it a charter of negative liberties - it doesn't give progressives enough power to grow. The government has expanded well outside the Constitution, therefore, number 6 holds

You're mistaken. What I said was, "Plus, I'm gonna need to see some support for # 6. What horseshit." No reference to specifics. So why don't you tell me why bailouts and stimulus are illegal? Moreover, WRT # 6, you are confusing size with function. The Constitution doesn't place any limits on the number of people in government - the size of the government - it places limits on what the federal government can do - the function of government. So once again, in what ways has the federal government expanded its functions beyond what is constitutionally permissible?

no it hasn't. virigina has become sorta purplish post 9/11 after a massive influx of federal dollars that skyrocketed Nova the nova population. When the population came, other companies also relocated to tap into the 'knowledge worker' base thereby increasing influx of non-viriginians to VA.

Without 9/11, VA does not turn purple because nova doesn't become so overcrowded and blue.

Nice fallacy. Northern Virginia's population and economy has been growing since WWII. But nice try there. You can pull the census data yourself, if you like.

rate of growth was MUCH different. pre and post 9/11

If a moderate R is the candidate, I'd probably vote for him/her, however, I would do so with reservation as increasing the Republican caucus seems only to embolden the Tea Party.

With the changing demographics of states like Virginia, Texas and Florida, the Republican party is going to have to make some major changes if it has any chance of survival.

Me too! My husband fits this profile and so do many of my friends. I still identify more with moderate Republicans as opposed to the Democrats but find myself (holding my nose) and voting for Democrats. I can't stand McAuliffe. I find him repugnant. If the Democrats had put forward a decent candidate, they would have won in a landslide. Same goes for the Republicans. But they had to put forward two horrendous choices and I chose the lesser of two evils.

And politicians created Obamacare. The regulations are political. But that's ok?

Obamacare does not compel any citizen to submit to a procedure. It says what procedures must be OFFERED. Not COMPELLED. That is a huge difference.

You may be required to have insurance but you don't have to use it.

Your insurer may be required to offer you birth control but you don't have to swallow it.

This is a lot of the problem with the stupid law. Men don't need pap smears and women do not need prostate exams, but by God, they are going to get them come hell or high water. One size fits all DOES NOT WORK!!! And, the law REQUIRES that these be covered REGARDLESS if people need them. What a genius idea.

Anyone with any sense would know this.

Message to future politicians who want a seat in Virginia:

You want our vote? Tell us how you are going to alleviate the outrageous traffic on I-95, I-81, and I-66. Don't mouth platitudes towards us for many of us are well educated and will see through your vain, empty words. You might persuade folks in Cootersviille but not the large number of us who are educated and can think critically. Be it known that whatever you say will appear on the internet for all of us to see and evaluate.

Tell us how you plan to cause corporations to consider Virginia as a place to set up shop but also keep them accountable so that we do not have a Love Canal or Mica, Romania episode. Tell us how these corporations will pay their fair share because their profits are in part derived from the benefits from utilizing our roads, our police to keep thieves and vandals at bay, and the fire department and National Guard to save their buildings from disaster. Very importanly, tell us how these corporations will contribute to our education system for it is our schools who educate their employee's children.

Tell us how you will not tax small businesses into oblivion but also paying their fair share when utilizing public works.

Social issues? If a law has been passed already then the people have spoken. Let it be, let it be. If a court mandated it over the will of the people then you may have a case.

Finally don't ever think you are going to take our guns away from us. If you try then just like in Colorado we will yank your greasy behind right out of office and toss you out. Count on it!

Someone should come take your guns away today. Seriously. Jesus. Pry them from your dead, cold hands? Yes, that can be arranged.

I'm not a libertarian because I believe in national defense.

I wish Chris Christie was running in VA instead of NJ.

Libertarians believe in national defense. They don't believe in foreign adventurism.

Here's what UVA has to say:

http://statchatva.org/2012/11/13/virginia-population-projections/

NoVA 2000-2010 pop growth rate was 24%, far outpacing the rest of the state and that growth accounted for HALF of the overall VA pop growth rate from 2000-2010.

you are seriously going to tell me the census data show that 1950-1960, 1960-1970, 1970-1980, 1980-1990, 1990-2000 growth rates are anywhere near that 24% for NoVA?

please back that up.

For example fix grew faster from1990 to2000 than from 2000 to 2010.

I never thought I would have said so before, but given our current Governor Bob McDonnell, and our Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe -- I actually wish that Governor Jerry Brown were running Virginia, old age and life experience have mellowed him into a rather wise, measured, and pragmatic governor.

Cucinelli was down very far in the polls and made a HUGE comeback the last few weeks mostly because he started campaigning against obamacare which has been a debacle to date with lots of VA residents getting cancellation notices from blue cross. The GOP establishment all but deserted him I believe bc he was so supported by the tea party. He won independents by 9 points over mcauliffe and also carried married women. I personally don't vote on social issues at all so that didn't sway me one way or the other. There is still a republican legislature so it looks like it will be gridlock in VA just like DC with nothing getting done.

Yes, Obamacare has been a debacle with lots of VA residents getting pissed off. So if your guy couldn't win NOW? You people have a serious problem on your hands.

What are you going to do to get your party to put forward more moderate candidates who are actually electable?
