This made me laugh because every time we go to Argentina we come back with a wicked case of the meat sweats and have to detox from beef and booze for at least a month! It is a great country and you can live very well for not too much money.

Argentina.

Where can you live for free these days?
Food there is cheap, entertainment is almost for free, the market is open, the food is wonderful, the weather makes it perfect. What else are you asking for?

Definitely Canada!

Definitely Israel, but I'd visit Costa Rica often.

No kidding - el Bulli is widely regarded as the most innovative (and possibly the best) restaurant in the world. And any cuisine that makes it a point to marry pork and fish as often as possible is OK by me. That said, I'd probably life in Paris, with frequent trips across the Pyrenees and Alps to eat.

Vietnam for the winter...good climate, you can live like a king for very little, friendly folk, great landscape. Someplace like Sweden in the summer.

England, Ireland or the Netherlands. I would say Australia...but there are way too many poisonous bugs/fish/animals there. I have heard that when it's Irukandji season, you are not even allowed in the water. One of the worlds smallest jellyfish is the most dangerous.

To me Mexico meets almost all these requirements. not all, but pretty damn close.

I'm an army brat and grew up all over, but the best place my family was posted to was Heidelberg, Germany. This city is HQ for US Army Europe, but that's beside the point. It's a stunningly beautiful university town, totally walkable, family friendly, great shopping and wonderful gemutlichkeit. Great food and bier too! Also a gorgeous medieval castle... this is where my classmates at the American high school there had our prom. Heidelberg is where I'd live if I had my druthers.
