Need an African American to Explain this Behavior

Some people are just angry, idiotic people. I'm sorry that you are looking for some deep meaning in all of this. Let it go op. Do you also think all muslims are terrorists who hate America? All latinos are illegal immigrants who are going to make cat calls at you? Seriously op, you're the racist sounding one here.

OP here-- Thanks for the response. The fact that so many have said that they were being just idiot punk kids is helping me form my opinion on this matter. I'm aware that I do sound racist by bringing this topic up for discussion and maybe that's something I have to deal with within myself after this is all done. Not looking for deep meaning-- just a response from someone in the African American community-- Is there something historically in the area to justify the behavior (Asians being dicks or screwing over African Americans-- The Marion Barry quote hints at a persistent racial tension that no one seems to want to discuss)? Or are these kids, adding to the growing responses on this subject matter, just being punks?

NO

Not OP, but 19:46 - way to show pride. Bitch. So what you are saying is that there IS some kind of immediate connection between blacks that there isn't between, say, blacks and Asians?

NO

OP here-- Thanks you.

Wow! Way to prove there are dumb Asians.

OP, based on your comment you sound like a bigot or at the least very narrow minded. The fact that you want AAs to feel guilt or give you an explanation/insight about a group of degenerates that they do not know speaks volumes about your mind set. How about if I asked you why did that Asian shooter shoot all those VT victims. Was there racial tension when he chose to take innocent lives or was he a lunatic or both? Can you provide an answer based on the fact that you come from the same racial group as the shooter?

Crap happens and I would be angry if the same happened to me. Unfortunately, no one truly knows except that a$$hole why he was threatening towards you. It's about him not you. Your AA co-worker will not be able to provide any info beyond what you have heard here so far. By asking your co-workers the question in the same manner you have asked it here, they will likely think that you are racist.

Pardon any typos.

Anonymous wrote:OP - "squinty/slitty eyes"? seriously? that is how you would describe yourself? get real please. this seems like a drama mongering post.

OP here-- It's an accurate description. I have squintier/slittier eyes than, say, white people. Am reminded of such in a jocular manner on a fairly regularly basis, but I don't mind at all. Not drama mongering, but simply raising awareness for myself.

AlrightBitch. I'm 1/2 black and 1/2 Chinese. You need to check your own self hate before you start attacking black men. WTF!
Shat on for hundreds of years on 4 seperate continents and have to deal with dummies like you and their insecurities. Urgh!

If it happens to any other race it is an example of individuals acting poorly, if it happens to an AA, it is racism.

Isn't that always the way?

OP is a racist. She just wants justification for being a racist.

How is 19:46 a bitch? I'm confused. Btw I'm a white female .

This thread is driving me nuts. OP - stop adding to the freaking responses already, and google are history to figure out if there is beef or not. Then go and spend time with your family.

Because she assumed that OP elicited that behavior by acting fearful or looking at the group of guys in the wrong way. So, basically she is saying the guy asked for them to spit on his car bc he was actually the one acting racist. WAY TO TURN IT AROUND, LADY!

Or maybe you are trying to start a race war in DC. The whole situation is bizarre and I find it equally bizarre that you are even considering having a face to face with some of your co-workers about this. Just bizarre.

OP here-- PP, I'm asking a pretty simple question. Did people of my race do something to people of their race in recent history to justify this act of overt hostility? Or, is it like other PPs have said, just something young males do here in the D.C. area?

I'm not used to young males walking around and acting this overtly hostile toward others. So I'm thinking it's the former issue-- in which case, I'd like to be enlightened. I'm not drama mongering or trolling-- As an Asian American, I want to know if African Americans have a reason to be hostile toward me in this area because others representing my race, have negatively impacted the African American community in this area.

You are right in that I am searching for validation for stereotyping young African American males going forward. If there is a trend of overt hostility from young African American males toward peoples of other races then I'd like to know so I can avoid putting myself in a similar situation in the future. Not trying to start a race war, but just trying to understand the underlying issues.

What will you do? You must park near your child's daycare. Are you thinking about changing daycares or asking someone to accompany you to the car?

OP here-- All seem somewhat reasonable suggestions. Or perhaps modify time of day that I pick up my child. Or avoid pick up until the coast is clear. Plenty of options, if there is an actual issue.

If it turns out that there's a general tension between Asian Americans and African Americans, I'll start avoiding going to places that are predominantly African American. If there's no tension, I'll specifically avoid that group of young men (which I intend to do any way).

You need to not live near a major city if your goal is not to be near Black people.

OP, you sound like you're not mentally functioning at a normal level.
