Why do people back into parking spots??????

I used to hit the car on the left or right when I pulled in, so I always back in.

When backing out, it's best to come out nose first so you don't hit anyone or anything.

Oh, and get a life. you must be so bored to have something as trivial as this piss you off.

Safer because you say so. The data is just not out there to support what you're saying. And just so you know, the insurance considers both drivers at fault in any kind of parking lot collision, DUMB ASS. Also, must not be that trivial since you took your time to read and respond.

In parking lots I usually go in head first, but when I come back to my car and find that I'm between two SUV's I WISH I'd backed in. At that point, you're driving blind.

FWIW I am white. Also agree, 5 is too many even in a free country.

Guess what? You control how many kids you have, not how many I have.

I drive a small vehicle. When I back out of a space, I CANNOT SEE over the enormous SUVs which surround me. Additionally, as I carefully try to back out, inch by inch, blindly feeling my way because I CANNOT SEE around those SUVs, drivers around here just continue to scream through the parking lot, who cares if someone is trying to back up, or is even already halfway out when they come into the lane?

I don't back into spaces but I sure can think of plenty of reasons why it's a good idea.

Of course. But we can still think it's ridiculous.

My husband backs in. I dont bc I dont have the confidence and I do find it easier to back out of a spot than in. I think he does it out of habit but he also backs in less time than it takes for me to drive. The people who are parking too close or running over thinks are just bad drivers.

I don't do this and I get impatient when other people do. BUT in some lots, I can totally see why they do it. It's the same reason that I pull through a space to the one in front of it if I can - because it is easier to see when you're leaving the space. This especially important when you're parking next to SUV's or big minivans and can't see oncoming traffic until you are out in the middle of it if you're backing out. Some passing cars won't yield even if you're 90% out of the space when they're driving by, and that can cause accidents or near misses.

It can be an annoyance, though, when someone takes 10 minutes to do it and they're still crooked.

I can see pulling through a spot if it is there and no one is in motion for the other spot. I can NOT see being inconsiderate and backing into a spot if others are waiting or if it involves your neighbors lawn. Be reasonable, people.

The people driving in the parking lot have right of way over those people backing out of spaces.

Sure, I'm fine with that. I think people who have pets and are atheists are ridiculous. Thank goodness it's a free country for all!

The passing cars have the right of way.

Thank God there are no real problems to complain about.

I have great parking skills I lived in europe and I can parallel park left side, right side, uphill, downhill etc.. I never parked back in first until I had a baby. we have tons of people who speed on our street and the suvs or trucks that surround me make it harder to see if I have to back out and then what if they hit me? they hit my baby first. Um, no thanks. My baby is more important than you OP any day. So, stew bitch stew! Although, I can park back in faster than you could ever hope to park anything.
