Yes two spaces are definitely the real issue, but I was just wondering why people backed in. I guess a lot of people feel its safer. |

I dont mind people doing this in empty lots but annoys me when they do it in busy lots and hold up a long line of cars. The ones seem to do this in busy lots are the ones who seem like they can use some practice. You may have reasons to do this but please it is rude to inconvenience others by taking forever or taking two spots.
I once saw an idiot in costco parking lot with his cart piled high with stuff standing infront of his backed in car. He backed his big ass suv into a corner spot with median on the side and bushes in the back. So he pushed the cart into another spot that opened up, pulled his car out, parked in the lane to load up

See! Just annoying!!!! |
| It's easier, especially if the spots are small. |
Irony. |
+1 Never saw this in the 8 other states I lived in before moving to Maryland. |
It's safer because you can see items I front of you (carts, kids, bikes). |
Sorry, I'm just a mercenary. I was hired as karmic police to deliver your comeuppance for you being so obnoxious and rude. |
|
I guess if it is either really busy or not very busy, DON'T F*CKING BOTHER BACKING IT IN! Be considerate. Does anyone know what that word means?
|
This whole post screams (literally) considerate. |

It's easier to get properly aligned in a tight space by backing in.
I always back into a space where children are known to frequent. They are fast and can't be seen without a camera when they are standing right behind a car. I doesn't take more than a few seconds longer than pulling into a space. Backing in is not a skill possessed by everyone. I used to drive for a living and am quite proficient at it. |
| NP here. I back into the spaces at my work parking garage because it is a heck of a lot easier with all the plyons. My big car is a minivan and I drive it because it is the only thing that fits my bazillion car seats. Am I entitled? Selfish? Get over yourself. |
I generally only back in when i know it's going to be tougher to get out of the spot, i.e. at wolftrap where i need to pull into a line of traffic (its going to be faster to get out of the spot in that case). But did you ever consider that people are taking up 2 spots on purpose so no one will park next to them? Has nothing to do with backing in? |
| I back in at work because the parking garage is extremely full and the attendents double park cars on the other side of the lane. So when I leave, I have to do a 55 pt turn to get my van out of my space (which I can do in 1 maneuver.) If I back in (when no one in there yet), I can just drive off. |
Wow if you're OP then I'm impressed. It's rare when an OP can actually decipher and acknowledge the two valid points raised in 4 pages of responses. |
