Why do people back into parking spots??????

Anonymous
DH does it all the time. It's so he can see better when pulling back out.

That being said, when you are driving a Suburban, you are usually also hyper aware of where your blind spots are as you back up -- but others walking or driving by seem to have no clue of the danger of just strolling behind one these cars when they have their reverse lights on. Best rule of thumb always walk IN FRONt of a large vehicle in a parking lot, never behind! Your could easily be in a blind spot and have a trajedy. I drive one and really, really try to be overly cautious and passive even, as I drive in town--I am continually amazed though at how many people just casually walk behind my giant vehicle as I'm backing up!

Of course your need to have a giant vehicle is also a mystery to me.

I have five children. I own a Honda Pilot. Is that okay with you?

Ha, my MIL and said that and I thought she was crazy. Once I paid attention realized she was pretty much right. I'd say 8 out of 10 that back in are black. What kills me is when people back up in a spot they could pull through. Often they are also the same people that hold up the line waiting for a car to leave a spot so they can be 2 spaces closer.

Does it drive you crazy that we live in a free country, where we can decide how many children we want? Don't worry, we have a high income and can take care of all of them.

But it's not. I always park WAYYYY faster than any of the people to back in. The spots are fairly small and they have to keep correcting themselves. From what I can tell there is absolutely nothing to be gained from this.

Really? all parking accidents I've heard of where people got hurt involve a driver backing OUT of a parking space.

Because, unlike you, they have parking skills, and they can.

Also, back in parkers are notoriously bad for not parking in properly (between the lines), and when a person parks in front first the rearview mirrirs are in the way. I moved to a new neighbrohood and EVERYONE backs in. WHY?????

Because they want to... why do you care?

Because being forced to watch someone do this unnecessarily delays me. It's rude and obnoxious. My time is much more important than theirs, so who the fuck are they to make me wait?

In the grand scheme of things, it evens out. After all, you have to wait for front parkers to back out, but not for the back-in parkers.

p

Because I drive 8 kids daily, which take 3 other cars off of the road. So if you do the math it costs less snd is better for the environment.

I was going to say this same thing. Why is that?? Drives me absolutely crazy no matter the color of the driver ...

I live in a "quiet" neighborhood and have a driveway. I've backed into it for at least a couple decades, after I almost hit a kid on the adjoining sidewalk while backing out.

In parking lots I usually go in head first, but when I come back to my car and find that I'm between two SUV's I WISH I'd backed in. At that point, you're driving blind.

FWIW I am white. Also agree, 5 is too many even in a free country.

I have a Suburban too. Love it. Yesterday I drove 8 people comfortably into DC to go museum hopping. Then later on drove one kid and two kids to the dog park. I rarely drive it by myself, as that would be pretty insane. But I digress. Yes, I always back into parking spots if I have the time and nobody is waiting behind me. Normally you can plan your backing-in better when you enter the spot than when you leave it.

With all the women and asian drivers, it's just safer to pull out of a parking spot going forward than backing out. That's why I always back in when possible (and only take up one spot. Nutwads who take up two spots deserve to be keyed.)

Because ITS SAFER you dumb ass!
When backing out, it's best to come out nose first so you don't hit anyone or anything.

Oh, and get a life. you must be so bored to have something as trivial as this piss you off.
