THen they should have also learned how to properly park in driver's ed.

Never saw this in the 8 other states I lived in before moving to Maryland.

Don't know if it is now but 20 years ago, it was required to demonstrate during the road test for HI drivers license.

I can't believe people would actually key my car if I backed into a spot. It actually takes me a lot less time to back in than going front in. If you see me spending 5 minutes trying to back in, you can bet it would have taken me 10 to go front in, so be grateful. I have always backed in and know the size of my car's back end. The front, I am more careful because I can't measure it as well. So, leave my car alone when you see it backed into a spot. I actually saved you time by having you watch me back in.

I think the keying the car post was about cars that take up two spaces. Not that that makes it okay either.

Also, back in parkers are notoriously bad for not parking in properly (between the lines), and when a person parks in front first the rearview mirrirs are in the way. I moved to a new neighbrohood and EVERYONE backs in. WHY?????

You need a new hobby, other than peering out at the parking lot from behind your curtains.

I'm a backer innner, and I am just as annoyed when people don't park within the parking lot lines. We have to back in our driveway. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to open my door to get out next to the side of our cement steps. When we first moved into this house, I was so uncomfortable and slow, I started backing in everywhere just to practice. If I didn't back up on target, I would have run into our steps on one side or our neighbor's driveway on the other side. Now, I mostly can back in anywhere with one shot. Anyone who takes more than 10 seconds to park, just doesn't know how to park. They probably don't know how to use their mirrors when backing up.

It is for show, an ego boost and when your door gets dinged it is more expensive because it is usually in a spot closer to the handle

some say it is a black thing, drive through the hood sometime and notice most cars are parked that way.

My DH backs in. I think the top reason is to show off. But he cites that he likes the feeling of being able to walk out of our townhouse and get straight in the car, verses turning back towards the house to open the car door and then having to back up.

Personally I find it super irritating when people back up into spots in commuter lots when it's almost time for the train to come; but otherwise, it's soooo much faster when everyone is leaving if there are few cars that need to back up to get out.

With a large SUV like a Surburban, it is actually safer and easier to back in. the turning radius on the larger cars is soooo wide that it will take even the most expert driver several back and forths to make a tight enough turn to tuck into a slot space. That being said, when you are driving a Suburban, you are usually also hyper aware of where your blind spots are as you back up -- but others walking or driving by seem to have no clue of the danger of just strolling behind one these cars when they have their reverse lights on. Best rule of thumb always walk IN FRONt of a large vehicle in a parking lot, never behind! Your could easily be in a blind spot and have a trajedy. I drive one and really, really try to be overly cautious and passive even, as I drive in town--I am continually amazed though at how many people just casually walk behind my giant vehicle as I'm backing up!

i dont mind if you back in so long as you can do it as quick as the majority of people who forward park

i hate when i see assholes who make 20 attempts at backing in and each attempt takes about 5 minutes to accomplish. give the shit up. you are holding up the parking lot with your nonsense.

whatever your stupid reason to back in park is, perfect that craft or stop doing it. your constant backing in and out to get in the space correctly takes too damn long and is annoying.

HAHAHA. Your use of English grammar clearly demonstrates your intelligence. I'm truly impressed.

Of course your need to have a giant vehicle is also a mystery to me.
