baby name Salem-am I crazy?

Try writing it down with your last name and then saying it out loud. Do you like it?

I love names like this that have meaning for the parents, represent a place important to them, and that you wouldn't think of as a name but work nicely. Keep it on your list I say.

I like it!

I really like it, especially as a boy's name.

I'm also from North Carolina.

I love it! It's different without being pretentious.
Every name has a connotation to someone, so I wouldn't put a lot of thought into that.
And in a classroom that's bound to be filled with several Sophias, Graces, Avas, Elis, Sams, and Benjamins, Salem will be refreshing.

Ok some folks from Winston-Salem (wherever that is) will think of this place, but I can assure you that west coast people's only connection with the word "Salem" is the witch trials.

I think what happens when pregnant is a person (hormonal or not) considers so many names, it gets confusing and it's good to ask people who are not immersed in it.

I forgot about the cigarettes but wow, double negative.

My DH wanted us to name DD Aurora (goddess of dawn) but sadly my friend pointed out it's a toilet paper brand.

Selene? (sounds similar, no witch trial, and nice history--goddess of the moon)

You must be thinking sa-LEEM. First syllable is more like an "ah", not an "ay".

When I hear Salem I think of the town of Salem in Southwestern Virginia - near Roanoke. That's a pretty area.

That's definitely spelled Saleem. So a different name altogether, but close.

There is no Arabic name "Say-leem."

Nope, pronounced SA-lem or SA-leem. SalAAM is a greeting but not a name.

???? Salam is most certainly a name in Arabic. It is both a greeting and a male name.

What about Salem, Oregon?

Winston-Salem is a city in North Carolina. Why did you go to the extra effort of saying that you don't know where it is?

And who doesn't know where Winston-Salem is?

Actually I kind of like it, especially for a boy. But it could work for a girl too.

If not, how about Simon/Simone?

I looked it up there is a Salem Bin Laden.
