You can literally do this with ANY name. Any.

If a child makes fun of another kid's name, its a safe bet one of their parents also takes the time to bash someone else's name in an online forum.


The difference is when you say John there are so many Johns that you think of, both good and bad. Not so with Salem. Although a boy could go by Sal and a girl Sally to get away from this horrible choice. Just my two cents

Don't do this your child. Salem instantly brings to mind the Salem witch trials. It refers to fairly horrible period in American history where many people were needlessly executed.
