I have noticed this occurring also...in thin fabric tops from The Gap and Express. It can occur anywhere on the shirt, not just the belly area. I am saving the shirts and will take them to the store to make them aware.....maybe if others do the same they will try to remedy the problem. I have thin tops from other stores that do not develop pin holes. I blame the manufacturer.

It is definitely caused by the corner of the button hole of your jeans. When I wear leggings, I don't get holes. When I wear pants that have a side closure, I also don't get holes. Someone needs to produce jeans with a rounded edge at the button hole instead of a sharp corner. That would solve the problem! What do you guys think? |
Wow - am I relieved to know that I'm not the only one with this problem! i can't tell you how many tee shirts I have ruined in the last few years. i just noticed a hole in my new favorite shirt and decided to go online to see if anyone else had this problem. I have resorted to using several layers of Saran Wrap tucked in my jeans/slacks and then out over the button area. This works but doesn't always stay in place and is a pain. Has anyone tried the Hole-lotion.com mentioned in this thread and does it work? Is it bulky? Don't need any extra bulk around the waistline. Thanks! |
17:10. I think you mean hole-lution.com. Google hole-lotion, it is for an entirely different hole... |
Yes, it was a typo. Hole-lution is what I meant. Thanks! |
I get it a lot too. always in front by pants top. I actually thought some weird moth liked that spot on them. It isn't just cheap ones though, I have 2 $100.00 + ones it recently happened to. I took one to a re-weaver and now is going to cost a ton to fix. The other I just noticed, and I have only worn it twice. Super annoying. Glad to know other people have this issue too! |
This is happening to all my shirts, too, but no one else's in the family, so it's not the wash machine. Thought it was the seatbelt on my car that we recently bought. Still haven't ruled that out. Then thought it was the clip I use for my swipe card at work, so I moved it and it's still happening. For right now it appears to be the zipper on my jeans rubbing against my shirts when I sit down and it exposes the zipper pull, but it's so random. Ruining shirts left and right gets expensive. |
I've been trying to get to the bottom of these tiny holes in my cotton tops for years. It's not moths - they don't target the same area. My tops are peppered with tiny holes around the waistband area - nowhere else.
I am convinced it has something to do with metal buttons on my trousers and a reaction with the induction hob. These mysterious holes only started to appear after we changed our gas hob for an induction hob. We also have a granite worktop so it could be the combination of both? What to you think of this theory? Ellen T |
It's coming from a fiber or two breaking the numerous tomes you have to stretch shirt to take off head |
Definitely the button/snap on the pants poking a hole through the shirt fabric. I started wearing tank tops under my t-shirts every single day and never got the holes again. |
Are there any clever people out there who can invent something to fit over the edge of your waist band to stop this? I look everywhere I go (Michaels, fabric shops) to find a solution..You could make a lot of money by inventing something. |
it's the button. All my thin t-shirts get those tiny holes after a few weeks of using regardless the brand. |
Granite counter tops or seatbelts.... |
For me it is definitely cooking and cleaning in the kitchen that does it. If I remember to wear an apron it helps |
I have a serious problem with these holes in my shirts in this area! I believe that it is a combination of my jeans with a belt and the seat belt over it!!! I have tried to be conscious of pulling my shirts out from under the seat belt because I generally do not tuck a shirt in. I have seen a slow down but has not stopped because I don't always remember. Some of the other suggestions I've read are mites in a belly button or silver fish attracted to oils from your belly button are ridiculous. My counters in my kitchen are smooth and I do not rub up against them when I cook . There is nothing els at my place of work either! |
