How can I stop getting tiny holes in my t-shirts near my belly button?

It has nothing to do with the fabrics, but the countertops themselves. It is so frustrating because I have ruined more tops that you can possibly imagine. I thought it was my car seatbelt, but it still occurred after my using a small towel under the seat buckle. It was then that I discovered it was the countertops. When I wear an apron, I do not get these holes on thinner fabrics or larger white looking marks on heavier tops. I do find it difficult to remember to wear an apron at all times, but surely if I don't I get the small holes. I do have a gas range, but don't notice any damage to my clothes. It is only when I spend time at the sink hand washing items.

Why granite?

My mom is 5'3", 110 lbs and has a flat belly - she's not fat and is in great shape- this happens to her too.

The holes usually come from pant zippers or belts.

I think it is soap residue left in my navel. I don't have granite countertops. My stomach is flat. It happens even if I wear jeans or shorts without zippers. It happens with t-shirts, cotton blouses, sweaters, etc. Just makes you not want to buy anything new!!!

Let's also hear from women who haven't gotten holes? What shirts are you wearing? Tell us about your life so can discern what we are doing differently.

ME! I was almost freaking out because this has never happened to me and from this thread it seems super common.

Maybe it's because I don't sit up against my desk or other tables?

You've all got me intrigued now

I thought that the holes were from jeans, washing machine, have now decided that I am the culprit. After washing my t-shirt I stretch them back to the original shape, or try to stretch the t-shirt out a little more, therefore weakening the fabric.

I never had this problem in the 90s. If you look at the beginning of the thread, women report it starting in about 2010. We need to stop buying from the big retailers until they fix this.
