Again, help me to understand why Blacks can't be anti gay marriage

Actually NO ONE that is from Central and South American is Mexican. Many people don't realze that. So yeah, Whowouldathunkit? I am sure that people from other countries have faced discrminiation. I don't have to google or go to the local library because well, I just have lived it. A lof of that discrminiation felt by immigrants is from African- Americans evn towards immigarnts from mostly black countries. Yes, that is hypocritical as well. In terms of why can't blacks be anti-marraige. They can be as just like anyone else they are allowed whatever views they want. It just seems intersting given the history of dicrminiation against them, they would want to limit the rights of others

So you're saying Mexico is not a part of Central America? No, I'm really asking...

I'm not the PP you quoted, I'm actually the PP with whom he/she seems to have a problem.

Continent-wise, of course, Central America is just part of North America. Mexico is most commonly categorized as being part of North America, along with Canada and the US. The countries in Central America are Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador, Belize, and Costa Rica. Geography-wise, something like a bit over 10% of southern Mexico is part of Central America. Some people also think of Mexico as being Central American because of shared language and cultural similarities with the seven Central American nations. Also, because these categories and borders were created by humans, other societies probably categorize things differently.

For someone obsessed with precision, your post contains a lot of spelling and grammatical errors. Speaking of precision, parts of southern Mexico are in Central America. So yes, some people from Central America are Mexican. This is the most irrelevant matter to debate, though.

And no, you don't have to go to the library if you don't wish to, but you are the poster who responded with incredulity when I stated that Mexicans have faced discrimination in the US, so I provided you with information on how you could learn more.

Also, you don't seem to know the definition of hypocrisy.

I don't know the definition because I don't agree with you?? Yes, there are typos and errors - my toddler was going crazy when I posted this, but I knew you would pick up on it. Gold star for you. You could argue with people until you are blue in the face, but those that believe it is PURE hyocrisy will still believe it - your verbal gymnastics notwithstanding. And I am not obsessed with precision. I was actually just making fun of you and your attempt to be clever with your wording. My "incredulity" was not that "Mexicans" faced discrmintion but that you made it seem as if they are the only "Hispanics" that face/continue to face discrmination. I don't think anyone is trying to put blacks "in their place" with the argument that they shouldn't be discriminating against others, but the fact that they are willing to discriminate against others and not see the ... (wait for it...) hypocrisy in that is what people seem to pick up on. Feel free to waste your time pointing out any errors or typos.

I didn't make it seem any way, you interpreted it that way. The last point on the list says that "the list goes on." It's strange that you don't also fixate on the Italian and Irish points on the list and claim that I made it seem that they are the only Europeans who have ever suffered discrimination. Truly, of the entire discussion, you're fixating on a minor point.

Re: hypocrisy, I'm not picking on you because I disagree with you. I find it wrong to be against gay marriage, but hypocrisy simply isn't the word for someone who has suffered discrimination who discriminates against someone else.

Perhaps, I did take it that way because I am tired of being called "Mexican." So, yes, I'll give you that. What would be a better term then, in your mind?

Do Blacks need to remember their place?
The Nazi's killed homosexuals too, so it would stand to reason that all Jews should be out there marching for gay rights.

76% of Jews support gay marriage, according to the Pew Forum. If you subdivide any group enough, you will find opposition, but on the whole Jews march for gay rights.

Also something to note: in the black civil rights movement of the 60's, Jews were proportionally the most heavily involved in the movement, followed by Catholics.

But the Orthodox Jews "should know better".

Orthodox Jews are a small percentage of Jews. That is like saying fundamentalist Christians should know better - and lumping all the rest of the Christians in with the batshit crazies. Jews are not all the same, believe it or not. Just like you Christians....

I understand why you'd be sensitive about the whole "everyone-south-of-Texas-is-Mexican" thing, especially because my Central American (hehe) spouse deals with it too.

As for what would be the better term, I don't know, although it's certainly sad.
