Spanish Basketball Team Salutes Their Hosts

Even if we have a lot of diversity in the US, near metropolitan areas, it's not to say that we actually interact with people of color. In LA, you've got people of all colors under the rainbow, but it seems very self-segregated by ethnic/cultural group ... Iranians, Asians, Latinos, Blacks, Jews, WASPs ... etc. Most of our days are spent in the work place. How diverse is it really? Here in the DC/NoVA area, I work at a large company, but it's really not all that diverse. Senior management tends to be white male. Administrative staff tends to be black female, with a sprinkling of others in between.

As another PP mentioned earlier, if something similar was done to offend another ethnicity or race, the outrage would've been much, much bigger.

Yes, Asians have let these things slide, but to their benefit. Since Asians have not been known to "act up" or fight back the way other minorities have, they have assimilated with White culture more and received some benefits for being the gentler group. Many are seen as White. It is hard to have it both ways. Maybe a lot of Asians need to look at the suffering of Blacks, Native Americans, gays in the fight for rights in this country and ask themselves if they would like to join in. We'd love to have you.

Asian Americans have suffered plenty in the US. Manzanar was not a cakewalk!

That said, I have experienced a lot of racism in this country. I wish I could say otherwise. When I was in Europe, I could not make it out of a club or bar without some (White) man asking me out. I dated a European man for years and lived there for a while. I can not say that I ever experienced a white man in the US asking me out, EVER. I am well above average looks, and very well educated, with a very good income. My parents were quite well off, and my whole family is very articulate. I could only assume that the aversion was racial. In the US, I have been asked out by two Asian men, one middle eastern man, the rest African or African American.

I would suggest that we look closely at ourselves here in this country since we are not living in Spain. Lets fix our own problems.

I just want to say I wouldn't equate not asking you to "aversion". I'm a white women, and find many black men very attractive. No black man has ever asked me out either. I think a lot is situational and - even though I agree that this country still has a lot of work to do re: racial equality - I think it is a stretch to say that not being asked out by white men is a result of their "aversion" to your race. I think it could be a lot of things - being overwhelmed by dating somebody of a different race, or by dating a strong, independent, beautiful women (of ANY race). Equating one thing (not being asked out) with the other (racism) is a bit much.

I get your point, but the strong independent woman was not a turn off to minorities in the US and European men, so I think that there is a point that White American men are reluctant to get involved with Black women.

There was suffering at Manzanar. Most Asians in the US immigrated after that. But I still think that the victims of Manzanar were very docile. Yes there were law suits, but White America has had it easy when it comes to Asians' relative passivity.

Probably because white America figures that all Asians know martial arts and will kick their asses. Not to mention, who will help them with their math?

There have been many, many times when I have told someone my husband is in IT, I am told it figures. Just because he is Asian people figure that he is good with all the technical stuff, and math. Oddly enough, math is not his strong suite.

yeah ... after they rescinded the law in 1965(?) that prevented immigration from Asia for 40 years. I'm not sure what the numbers are for Asian immigration pre & post 1965, but there have been Asians in America since the 1840s, more than 150 years. Why do Americans continue to treat Asians as newcomers?

There were many discriminatory laws that were changed after the civil rights movement in the mid 60's which was lead by mostly African American activists. These changes benefited everyone. There were immigration restrictions on all non-White people. Inter racial marriages were prohibited in many States, and so on.

You really don't get it do you? Asians are discriminated against every single day. They are usually not considered white, and are often the but of jokes in TV and movies.
Asian women usually have to be guarded when meeting men. Too many men in this country have an Asian Chick Fetish. Most likely because they think the women will be submissive, and cater to the mans every want and need, in and out of bed.

Probably because the majority are newcomers, opposite of African Americans and Africans.

I do get it. Yes there is racism. I have met many a White man who will only date Asian women. That is itself is racist. Yes, they think that the woman will be submissive. Even the chinese girl adoption: adopt one and she will submit and never cause trouble. Opposite of the fear many people have about adopting a Black male.
I still think that Asians are percieved as submissive because they have made that impression. After that comes the stereotypes...
