i've just spent the past hour on franklymls picking out my house. i will also pick MIL a house of her own choosing -- but in the country of my choosing. haha -- i like that!

I wouldn't just hand out the dough willy-nilly, but I would pay off my immediate family's house notes and ensure that all of my neices and nephews had their college tuition paid.

I would become a lady of leisure. Serve on some non-profit boards. Throw fabulous fundraising parties for said non-profits and political candidates at my new beautiful home on the Potomac.

Those who know to shut their mouths and not tell anyone (including your kids, though they may suspect) - are the smartest and most deserving. Your kids will forgive you for not telling them when they get their cut, I promise.

As for friends, if they treat you differently or expect some sort of payout, its their own loss. Anyone who expects anything gets and deserves absolutely NOTHING.

I would help those who have helped us through the years. Those who have been there the very few times we have needed anything. Period. I like the anonymous idea.

I would never tell anyone except DH. I would accept the money through a blind trust, and immediately put almost all of it into a charitable foundation that I run. That much money would destroy our lives. We do need a larger house, a nicer car, and it would be nice to afford private schools for the kids, but I don't want my life to be all about spending money, managing money, fending off people who want to take money from me. I want to give almost all of it away. I'd keep some for the kids' college, and some trust funds they can collect when they are 35, and for retirement, but the rest will go to far more deserving souls than me. I would give absolutely zero to my family. They are the most money-grubbing cheapskates you'll ever find, and they don't deserve a penny.
