My impression has always been that they need every student they can get.

What does this mean?

The grassy knoll link! Maybe she will be replaced by a VP/CGO (Chief Grass Officer). Or they will replace it with corn.

And now the whole playground is a mud pit that will take days to dry off. Maybe it was betsy's idea andf that is why she was let go....

I'm 12:47....Although we may not have liked how the situation was handled and there seems to be valid concerns with transparency, funding, board responsibilities, and communication, it is time to move on. Hopefully the directors and board have read these posts and are able to weed through angry rantings to see there are some issues with substance that need addressing.

This however has not changed the care our children have received. The school still remains a terrific place and complaining about the mudpit isn’t productive. I doubt the kids care and it’s not like our yards aren’t mudpits either. I bet this facility still remains one of the cleanest, biggest, brightest, and most modern in the area.

Someone posted early that the grass isn’t greener. While shopping with a friend whose child attends school X we ran into another parent of school X. They spent a good ten minutes complaining about the lack of time their kids get to spend outside. They also don’t get an option for 5 days of catered lunch and they were unhappy that their kids were the oldest in the class. So….don’t recommend the school then. Go somewhere else if you choose, but don’t assume that everything will be peachy there. My guess is there will be other issues to attend with.

Shaun - is that you?? Hate to burst your bubble but I also have friends with kids in other daycares that are very happy. We ended up leaving RSSC a few months ago and never looked back. Our new daycare has a nicer outdoor space, much more room to run around, and more equipment. The classes are bright and large. Paying $150 dollars less a month. Other activities such as dance and soccer are included in monthly rate. No catered lunch, but I always made my kids lunches so that was never an issue. My kids love their teachers and I feel my relationship withe administration is much more open and on equal footing. The only negative is that it is about 5 minutes further, but they have assistants waiting in a covered outside driveway to get the kids out of the car and into their rooms. So yes - the care at both schools is equal, and yes, that is the most improtant qualification...but felliong comfortable with the leadership is also important and in this area, RSSC falls flat.

PP, do you mind me asking which center your child attends now? We're seriously considering other options. Thanks!

I would really like to understand why the tuition is so expensive. New rates took effect this month and we are feeling the pinch. I think many of us would like a better understanding of why rates continue to increase faster then inflation. What is it that is driving these costs so high year after year? Rent, health insurance, certifications, utilities, all of the above? Why are we then expected to give an extra $350 a year as a bonus to the school? When my child moves up in the classrooms do I end up paying more each time?

This isn’t an angry ranting, but hopefully the beginning of a serious discussion. Maybe if the general parent population understood, we may be able to pull intellectual resources to try to find ways to keep costs down. This seems to be a tight secret and the only information we receive is “teachers only make X amount an hour”. As far as I know, only the board understands the reasons for this. Although I have no issues with the board members themselves and I think they are all lovely fantastic parents and people who dedicate alot of mostly unappreciated time, I do wonder if they have the right background or qualifications when it comes to the fiscal health of the school. Are there board members who are financially savy or members who are in the commercial real estate market? Is there someone who is great at contracts and negotiating?

Potomac Nursery School - they don't have summer option, but we have care and camps during the summer.

Very great points. Let's not forget the extras we pay for ballet/soccer/jump bunch, etc. The lunch also seems expensive with respect to the amount the kid eats...it's about as expensive as my lunch. Actually, it's more expensive than my lunch of leftovers or soup. Also the fundraiser for the school where everybody is nudged to give.

Times are hard for a great many of us. A little justification on the cost increases would be appreciated. I also understand that the school gives scholarships. I have no idea how much that impacts my costs. Aren't there enough resources out there that we should not need to shoulder this extra burden? I'm not being all tea party here, but aren't there enough resources from Head Start, the County, perhaps churches and such?

The thead of all of these notes is very concerning to me. There seemss to be way to much negative about RSCC especially the sudden departure of personally my favorite staff person of the school. My child adored her and asks about her daily. Is there anyway we can maybe get some answers at the back to school pot luck? Is there anyway that anyone knows how to contact Betsy?

It's a shame Betsy had to go. The management of the place will surely change sometime in the near future. Hard to imagine the CEO staying without his kids in the program. What will the face of RSCC be in a couple years? No Betsy, No CEO...who will lead then? What do we care, anyway? Eventually we all move on the next school.

I sure care, as my kid is just a baby. I love the teachers and like the others in the office, but have a bad taste re: the Betsy thing. The silence is frustrating.

I don't know, maybe the CEO will stay on. I've always felt he's had an ulterior motive for taking on that role in the first place. I don't think he does it because he just loves kids. Just my opinion of course....

Do you guys all really think an employer has the obligation to barf someone's personal employment issues to everyone using a service? Most employers treat employee relationships as confidential. Why should this be any different. If they started spouting off on what happened to this person, they could be sued by her, depending on what the deal was, so as every responsible employer does, they are keeping silent. It's the right thing to do.
