Honestly I haven't seen turnover more than usual - we have new classes. - the owls - which have to be staffed, and there's been sme switching around. All of my kids teachers have been around for as long as we've been there. Summer has some new people, but that's every summer. I do wonder where Betsy went, I am not too concerned - people move on all the time. And there doesn't seem to be a change in tone on my estimation. |
Still doesn't answer the question about the abrupt departure. Betsy had to have been a significant part of the school. It was only a few years ago that RSCC was Christ Church. Betsy was one of only two Directors.
Jump forward to now and she was seen one day, then the parents got the little note the next day. I'm guessing she either quit right then and there, or somehow got fired (if that's even possible). Whenever people have huge personal business to take care of, they might take a few weeks off of work, etc. She basically pulled a Steve Jobs. Except that Jobs is still sort of involved with Apple. This does not seem to be the case here. Yes, I am a parent and don't like the secrecy. Or maybe she just got tired of the parking rules. Or maybe she didn't want to be part of a non-profit school that charges for-profit fees. Or maybe she just had it with crazy parents that have to go vent on DCUM because we can't get any info from the school. |
I am disappointed that a place that prides itself on its sense of community does not provide more of an explanation as to why she is no longer there. Many parents, including myself, also want to make sure she is ok. My child will miss her too. |
I worry for the kids in the new Swan class. That teacher already spends a tremendous amount of time in the office rather than in the classroom. How is having her help in the office going to benefit those kids? |
anyone heard anything? |
RSCC parent here. It could be a personal issue that lead Betsy to leave.
Putting myself in her shoes, I would be very upset about this thread. Sometimes details of people's personal decisions aren't meant to be shared with hundreds of people. I don't think this reflects badly on RSCC as a whole. |
I agree, if it is something personal, though, I wish the school would say even that, just to prevent the rumor mill. I adored her, and her leaving affects the entire community. I think that, on the email listserve or some other way, this should be addressed. |
Knowing Betsy, I think it is against her DNA to walk out on the kids or the parents like it appears she did from that ridiculousness note. Reading through the lines, and knowing Betsy, and the way the Board leadership has handled situations in the past, I would bet 1 yrs tuition that this was not by choice. |
What kind of situations in the past? I'm new to RSCC and am concerned about this implication.. |
There is a parent listserv. Why are we all so scared to use it?
|
What's the address? Has anyone emailed re: Betsy? |
There is something shady about the board - in my opinion. They are not interested in working things out with the parents and prefer to have you move on than raise legitimate concerns. Plus, you are paying profit prices for a non-profit. |
I don't think the prices are equal to for profit schools.
I do think it is unusual that requests from parents to be informed about when the board meets and to attend the board meetings are denied. |
Based on my research - the cost difference between RSCC and other nearby centers is negligible. Certainly not enough to justify non-profit status, imo. But, are you serious that parents are not allowed to attend board meetings? Did you know that one of the requirements to maintain non-profit status is open board meetings? This doesn't sit well with me and I am going to investigate deeper. |
It's been over a week since the departure and nothing said yet. It perhaps says a lot about the mindset of those running the school. Let's all try to crash the next board meeting! I was really unaware that ordinary parents aren't allowed in. |
