Most employers treat employee relationships as confidential. Why should this be any different. If they started spouting off on what happened to this person, they could be sued by her, depending on what the deal was, so as every responsible employer does, they are keeping silent. It's the right thing to do.

THANK YOU!!!!

Just a thought...has anyone bothered to talk to any of the teachers or other employees at the school. I have spoken with several of them and they are not in the slightest disappointed with the departure of Betsy no matter the reason. The morale and mood of the staff seem to be better now than in the weeks leading up to her "mysterious" departure. One poster mentioned that her child loved Betsy, but I work with kids and know that what they like or dislike, or love or hate, is rather fly by night. We had an amazing soccer coach with our soccer program, which by the way came with us from the old location, that the children that attended his class religiously loved and adored.....even referring to soccer days as "Soccer Man Day." This program was adored by kids, parents and teachers alike, and my understanding is that Betsy was responsible for not renewing their business and going with the current soccer provider, which is not nearly as liked by the kids, parents or employees.

Bottom line is that the important factor is not why, but that the school maintains it's high order of service to the children, mainly, but the parents as well. One should consider that before they begin making demands or pushing for answers. Do you your children come home better socially and intellectually for attending Rock Spring? If the answer to that is still yes, then move on from this craziness and be thankful that you are enrolled in a school that cares for and loves the children the way the teachers and employees do at Rock Spring, Betsy or not! The kids are the important piece after all, not the nosy, controlling parents.

My two cents....

without disrespecting anyone and their opinions, but honestly I have to that you all are defending Betsy and her so called rights and that she will be missed and that the kids are sad because she left? Blah blah blah
She never spent her seconds, minutes, and hours in a classroom with your child all she did was give happy faces in the office and your giving her the credit of what the center is? Really get a reality check people she may have contributed in some sort of way towards the center but that does not make her the face nor the body of this Gorgeous center!!! It's the teachers that on a daily basis teach and nurture your kids to becoming better individuals, independent and all of the above!! If all you care about is finding out about the reason why Betsy left then that shows that you don't appreciate the hard working teachers here at RsCc and giving her the credit for what they do is nonsense! Get over it and move on its not your business about the reason why she is no longer there! All your doing is invading privacy and not minding your business. People have their own issues to worry about than be giving you explanations for her sudden leave. The center is happy and getting over it and in way better standing than ever!!! Suck it up people and move on!!!!!

Can't believe I'm even responding to this horribly worded comment, but to say "all she did was give happy faces in the office" is incredibly insulting both to Betsy and to the parents and children who adored her. I wonder if the poster IS a teacher, with the reference to "here at RSCC." I hope not, considering the spelling and grammar issues.
I agree that the school doesn't owe a detailed explanation regarding employment issues, but this isn't a faceless company she worked for. It's the place that our children spend their days. I do think the community deserves more than "Betsy is gone." Whether it's one on ones with particularly concerned parents, a note like "the issues were personal and we are respecting her privacy" or "there was a professional conflict of interest" etc would go a long way. She was active with the children until the day she left and something feels weird, even now, weeks later.

Did I miss something? Is Betsy on this page?

Who knows? This forum is anonymous people. Most likely the strongly worded defensive posts about RSCC was penned by their controlling board. As in any service oriented relationship parents should grow some balls, ban together and SPEAK UP. You are RSCC customers. Want better? Demand better! Or simply leave...there are some equally great centers out there - maybe RSCC would change their practices if it affected their bottom line.

And the BS about keeping mum is ... BS. Childtime

Wow, it seems real childish to see some of us parents (obviously not including my self) disrepect the people where our children attend on a daily basis. First, we have here someone saying that a post seemed like as if it was written by a teacher because of grammer, and now we have someone else disrespecting one of the directors! Seriously! You all are not acting like grown educated professionals that you appear to be when you present yourselfs to the school every morning and evening at drop off and pick up. All of this attacking the office and the center makes you worse than a high schooler. I guess its true what they say, you don't have to have a Bachelors, Master, PhD etc. To know how to act civil and mature. Grow up people and stop behaving worse than your children. Nasty attitudes won't get you anywhere nor will it make this situation any better. Let the flame burn out and let it go!!!!!

We are now up to 100+ posts. Lets’ be generous and say many parents posted 2-3 times each, bringing this to say 30-40 parents (roughly a quarter of the school if I’m not mistaken from what was mentioned at the April fundraiser). So 25% of the parents are 1) upset at Betsy getting fired with no heads up to parents after the fact to quell all of the kids’ questions OR 2) parents trying to diminish the anger by mentioning positive items about the school. This now coupled with at least two teachers posting and what would likely be a board member or two as well. And many now moving off of just the Betsy termination and on to other core issues about the school. This is all pretty significant and should not be taken lightly.

And yet the President and CEO remains mum. I don’t expect him to address any of this on DCUM. I don’t expect him to address why she was fired—we know that is privy and personal. That being said, if a CEO sees 25% of his workforce or funders (plus staff members) so up in arms on a decision that he made—that impacts most everyone in some way—well, it’s time he tried to address this in a productive matter. Stop remaining silent. Create an open dialogue. Address the culture of many parents being afraid to raise issues. Have one on one conversations with parents and create new opportunities for parent involvement. Discuss the future of the organization and what the short and long term strategy is. Encourage parents to come to board meetings. The potluck dinner is an excellent venue to introduce such a dialogue. A message from him to parents’ listserve would also be very appreciated and is the right thing to do.

Can the board or remaining office staff encourage him to start dealing with this? The bad taste has been left and will take a long time to go away. Yes, the teachers are terrific, and the school is lovely. That is what is most important, after all. I still have no problem recommending the school to prospective parents. Yet, I have an awful hard time seeing why we as parents—paying for the school and the CEO’s salary—have this much angst regarding his leadership and management skills.
