Yu Ying Waitlist Movement

If you are worried about location, don't go charter. There is no guarantee that they will stay where they land.

It has been made. They bought a permanent building a few months ago. They bought the beautiful red brick building with the trees at the top of the hill at 220 Taylor. Drive by, they're renovating it now, or buy a ticket to the school auction there in June. They've also been awarded a building at Walter Reed but that might eventually be used for the middle school or something. 220 Taylor will always be Yu Ying's.

I thought that the Walter Reed building was for a possible high school, not middle school? Getting to Walter Reed can take a long time during rush hour.

YY is chartered for pK to 8, with class size of 80, 800 total students.

In 2011-12, YY will have ~350 students.

220 Taylor can accomodate growth for 2 to 3 more years, after which there will need to be another building. Somewhere. For some portion of the school population. Could be Walter Reed. Could be an addition to the 220 Taylor building. Could be some other location. Hey, maybe it would even be Franklin School !!!!

Could be the middle school students go somewhere else (most likely). Could be the youngest students go somewhere else.

But for sure, the whole school as currently chartered will not fit in the 220 Taylor building that opens in Sept 2011.

Anyone know if there's been any movement this week?

no change in the published wait list, see link. you'd only know there is no change if you looked at the list regularly, I do.

There is some movement today - including 1 spot in PK.

2nd: no change

1st: 2 names off the top of list, presumably admitted

K: 1 name moved to top, same initial as a 1st grade admit, presumably sibling

PreK: 1 name off the top, presumably admitted
1 name dropped from the middle, could either be a sibling admit or a no longer interested dropped from list

Have to vent even though we're NOT on the waitlist but I can imagine how frustrating this must be to the parents who are. C'mon people! If you don't want or don't particularly care about Chinese and have a spot at another school give it up!

I know people are waiting for the tours and Kidfest but it really is about whether or not you want your kid to become bilingual in Chinese.

Don't want to offend anyone but how frustrating...

When are the tours? Kidfest could be postponed due to rain...

Forgot the other dates but ours is on May 24th.

Four tour dates over the next two weeks: 5/17; 5/19; 5/24; 5/26.

don't forget you have to sign up for a specific tour date and you have to be on the waitlist

Could a waitlisted family sign up for the tours? If so, do we call the school directly? TIA!

Admitted families go on the tours too.
