This is so cruel--why don't they just go ahead and do it? |
|
I don't know-- i think in the case of the friends i know (2 families above), they're not thrilled with the chinese aspect
of yu ying and yet their other option isn't so hot either. it isn't right and i don't condone it but it is done and therefore spots will still open up. |
If they don't want Chinese, they shouldn't opt for Yu Ying, period. Don't they know that "the Chinese aspect" of PK is 100% immersion? Why even consider sending your kid to such a school (and denying another kid the opportunity) for a year or two when you're just going to move him/her to somewhere with no Chinese at first opportunity? Talk about a lose-lose outcome. |
I hope you get in and I'm wishing you good luck. Anyone who wants it so much would be a great addition. I know it feels awful right now, but really ALL schools have tremendous movement on their waitlists between now and the beginning of October. You've actually got another 6 weeks or so. Fingers crossed for you. |
| I'm 9:44, and we'd be thrilled if our child got in...as to people holding spots they plan to give up being cruel, I have to agree. Right now we have a spot at our IB elementary, and I've been struggling how to prepare DS. I mean, while we do have until Oct to before the attendance counts, school actually starts next week! Which means (for us) buying uniforms, preparing DS for school, going to his transition week day, going to back to school night, etc...I know kids are adaptable, but I just don't like the idea of getting him settled somewhere and joining that school community only to pull him away a few weeks in, because someone else on the waitlist was feeling indecisive. So, PP, if you could tell your friends that I'm on pins and needles, I'd really appreciate it!!! |
| To the PP, for what it's worth, we started our kid at our local elementary for pre-k, then pulled him out after getting the call from YY after about a week or two of school. It was wrenching at the time, much more so for me than him, but it all worked out and I'm glad we're there. Good luck. |
