Yu Ying Waitlist Movement

Anonymous
When is the paperwork due for those who were admitted through the lottery? Just wondering when to expect the initial movement on the waitlist.

Also, does anyone know how far the K waitlist moved last year?

Paperwork is due April 22.

I recall someone saying it went to 25 or 30, but don't quote me.

It will definitely go deeper this year than last since the class is so big.

That was the preK wait list.

The K wait list does not move very much, after the initial movement. There were only 10 new students admitted to K. After the first 10 randomly drawn say yes/no, the next students admitted are those who got applications in very early. More likely to say yes. New K students also must attend summer program June 24 to July 8. There might be some movement around that time (e.g., kid doesn't show up, kid goes and it convinces parent that chinese is not the correct choice) but those who attend the summer program are probably more committed to the school (e.g., less likely to say yes if a call comes from another charter/DCPS in August) and more likely to show up in September.

Impossible to predict, but the above are some factors.

Whoops, this would be for pre-K.

Yes, I'm the non-quotable PP. Reading comprehension fail.

I know the K list from 2 years ago.

There were eventually ~ 6 kids admitted to the class, mainly due to attrition as there was no increase in class size. Prior to the required immersion camp (which was in August that year), ~14 kids were offered slots to have 6 accept. Several weeks into the school year, a child moved to attend a spanish immersion charter (as reported by my K student). The child who then joined the class was another 14 slots down on the wait list.

This year there are 10 new slots for K. The class is going from 2 sections of 50 to 4 sections of 15. If the 2009 has any predictive relevance, the school will accept around 2 students per slot to get the first 10 (down to waitlist number 10 or so). Then 2 of those students will take another placement in the fall, and around 30 students will be accepted to refill the slots.

Another factor is return of the current preK. It could be that a couple of last year's 50 will not return. Say 4 kids don't return. Another 8 kids accepted to fill those hypothetical slots.

Hard to predict however.

For entrance to K in 2010, there were 0 slots at the time of the lottery. 4 kids on the current class lists were on the initial wait list, numbers 3, 5, 16, and 20. Two of them were admitted in June, two after August, but I don't know if it was during or after the start of school.

Everyone can see the spreadsheet, so it isn't a miracle or insider info.

But we're talking about entrance into K, in the fall of 2010, right? That data is not online. I'm not disputing that PP is who she says she is, I'm just amazed that someone would happen to have that information lying around. Somebody's a serious data hound, that's all. (Not that it's a bad thing.)

Prek waitlist-- Looks like it moved 20 spots ? Anyone get off the waitlist today? Is this most of the movement we should expect, or should it still move deeper?
