It's 95% the same loser with the same writing style.

I’ve caught onto this a while ago but every time we unfortunately take the bait.

OP is “Emory mom” — it’s no mere coincidence the thread “Is WashU declining” that she created appeared at the same time as the thread “Is UChicago declining” the other night.

The UChicago boosters are just a very sensitive bunch - who scream “Emory Mom” when anything critical is posted about the school. It’s a really sad, strange phenomenon. Hopefully they can find a safe space on another forum.

What’s even sadder is dedicating your life to bashing Chicago. You’re just mad because we’ve identified you as the sole poster who constantly needs to trash this school. Calling out your BS isn’t “boosting” — calling it boosting is a classic Emory mom gaslighting technique.

But I don't mind their need aware policy. Take the full pay kids first - makes sense if you're a business that needs cash.

UChicago is need blind for domestic students and need aware for international.

UChicago very quietly and under the radar went need aware for everyone two years ago.

They are not need blind for anyone (only top 20 school in that position).

How do you know?

My kid has several friends (from weeklong enrichment program) who applied ED0 + financial aid. There is no pattern based on need that explains the outcomes.

Of course they still admit some students with financial need. Being need aware doesn't change that, it simply changes what factor(s) they can or do consider in their review/decision-making.

I’m aware because I work in higher education.

You are welcome to call or email the UChicago admissions or financial aid offices and clearly/directly ask the question if you’d like. “Are you need aware or need blind?” Feel free to report back what you learn….

NP. You honestly piss me off so bad that I just called them and, indeed, the representative I spoke to used the words “need-blind” to describe their admissions process.

When you say you “work in higher education,” do you mean you’re a janitor at a university?

UChicago is trying to become a peer to the Ivies. In academic circles it has been one for generations, but they want to be seen that way by the social elites.

I have no clue why this site hates on UChicago so much. People complain that elite colleges disadvantage kids from competitive high schools, but they also trash UChicago for admitting large numbers of private school kids that aren't top of class.

the WL is very much need aware, which is not unusual.

they take from the need-aware WL before May 1, which is very unusual

NP I don't understand why everyone seems so negative on Chicago.

It is a top school in many majors.

I don't get the negativity.

So is UChicago lying when they say they are need-blind? Or are some DCUM savants who bash the school the actual liars?

I am always amazed by passion Uchicago ignites in people on this forum

I don’t really understand why uchicago is so controversial here or why it gets people so worked up. In everyday life, people don’t talk about it much.

This. And have to pay their first year's tuition before they start their senior year.

No that is illegal and nonsense

UChicago understands that elite prep school kids really boost institutional reputation. If they take 20 kids from Andover every year, that network grows exponentially and eventually those kids will become successful and donate back to the alma mater.

They also let in a decent number of kids from Chicago Public Schools and have some generous scholarship programs for them.
