here's the middlebury hater just making up weird claims that make no sense.

Amherst and Williams received record breaking numbers of 18,000 and 17,000 for class of 2030. Are they gaming the system like Colby, of course not. These Middlebury boosters can not explain multiple declines in applications recently.

DP. They aren’t making up anything. It’s the same concept - have kids start in the second semester, when more beds and space are available on campus. That way, they can greatly increase the amount of households paying the school tuition. Northeastern uses this strategy to fulfill their goal of rapidly climbing in prominence. It’s obvious Middlebury keeps “Feb” around because they are in some sort of trouble.

Also why are 117 students enrolled in February term - do they have that delayed Spring start term (that NEU, USC, BU, NYU do) too?

More like what Hamilton does.

What are you even talking about? Yes, the school started it to fill up beds but it’s become a well established program. It clearly works for the school and the students. The school isn’t trying to fool anyone.

Why do you care so much? I am an alum and a Feb.

It's been happening for decades, so catch up.

Midd's finances are far from poor.

The "Midd" boosters are coming in hot. If your school's shorthand name is literally pronounced "mid," then you can't convince me the school isn't mid lol.

Middlebury College is addressing a projected $14.1 million budget deficit by cutting over $10 million from its annual budget through measures including reducing retirement matches, hiring freezes, and closing the Middlebury Institute of International Studies campus in California by 2027. The crisis, largely stemming from low enrollment at the MIIS campus, has led to staff reductions and protests by faculty, students, and staff.

That seems quite poor to me.

Colby and Amherst have better FA for international students than Middlebury. I think that partially explains it. Williams is by far the #1 liberal arts school in the country so that may explain the steady increase in applicants.

The name has been around since the 90s or earlier.

Middlebury’s finances are far stronger than Colby’s. Bigger endowment, less debt, and a lower draw rate on the endowment.

Hate on Colby all you want - they're crushing it, and their admissions tactics are serving them well.

Colby does some weird stuff with admissions. They're another one that routinely takes kids in the bottom 50% of private schools and yet they have a super low acceptance rate. It doesn't add up.... OR they just really like private school kids.

Why not post the February update where they said that the budget was $4.49M?

How about Coby’s $3M deficit for three years running? Middlebury could go to surplus instantly by increasing their draw to that of Colby.
