Interesting. I looked it up and here's the full list of top 50 "smartest" student colleges. Note: it's from 2015, I guess Middlebury just fell outside the top 50, and is at 51.

If you compare the most recent CDS, you'll see that Middlebury's standardized test scores are very similar to those of schools like Bowdoin.

2025-26 CDS
Bowdoin:
34.76% submitting SAT, 17.28% submitting ACT
SAT 25/50/75: 1470-1510-1540
ACT: 33-34-35

Middlebury:
33% submitting SAT, 16% submitting ACT
SAT 25/50/75: 1460-1500-1530
ACT: 33-34-35

Based on the most recently available IPEDS information, Middlebury's SAT profile isn't quite as robust as that of Colby, however.

RELEASE THE CDS, COLBY!

Thanks for stopping by to tell us that. You and your kid are sooooo cool!!

In what world is any highly ranked Liberal Arts College a niche school?
A niche school is one that offers a super unique course of study that you couldn't find at a bunch of other place.

They are virtually identical on the SAT side with Colby haveing a slightly higher higher nidpoint on the SAT. On the ACT Middlebury has higher scores at each level.

With SAT information available at a rate 44% greater at Colby than at Middlebury, a reliable inference can be made that Colby's underlying SAT profile is significantly higher than that of Middlebury.

As has been said many times before. Why won’t Colby release its common data set? They’re playing games.

USC is doing this exact same thing to make up some of their budged deficit so maybe that's what Middlebury is trying too?

Middlebury has had Feb starts for 50 years:

Why?

Because it's a weird a$$ school. My MIL went there. It's just different.

I’m truly fascinated by the sheer number of people on this forum who hate on certain schools. Or maybe it’s just a handful who post over and over, pretending to be different people. Guess only the mods know.

Not sure what their agenda is or why they’re so hateful. Bad experience? Rejected? Trying to boost another school by putting this one down?
