Colby is a great school, you’re an idiot.

Colby and Amherst have better FA for international students than Middlebury. I think that partially explains it. Williams is by far the #1 liberal arts school in the country so that may explain the steady increase in applicants.

Not sure how you would know that given Colby won’t release a CDS.

It's been happening for decades, so catch up.

Midd's finances are far from poor.

Middlebury College is addressing a projected $14.1 million budget deficit by cutting over $10 million from its annual budget through measures including reducing retirement matches, hiring freezes, and closing the Middlebury Institute of International Studies campus in California by 2027. The crisis, largely stemming from low enrollment at the MIIS campus, has led to staff reductions and protests by faculty, students, and staff.

That seems quite poor to me.

Why not post the February update where they said that the budget was $4.49M?

How about Coby’s $3M deficit for three years running? Middlebury could go to surplus instantly by increasing their draw to that of Colby.

As of February the budget is $4.49M but they had to slash $10M to get there. Similar things are happening at Duke, but they have to cut a whopping $350M.

[insert "Mean Girls" meme]

"Gretchen, stop trying to make 'Febs' happen."

Hahahahaha

USC is doing this exact same thing to make up some of their budged deficit so maybe that's what Middlebury is trying too?

Middlebury has had “Febs” for decades! Look up Middlebury Febs graduation on YouTube!

Depends. Not all the professors at the two are equal. Kids want different things.

I liked that Midd was close to skiing. Colby is closer to fantastic restaurants. BTV dining options are fine but Portland is way better. Portland is a slightly bigger city than BTV.

Middlebury has one of the better undergrad Economics program and an international outlook. Long history of Wall Street alums including current head of Morgan Stanley and number 2 at Goldman Sachs among many others. Also amazing alum network in sustainability and global affairs.

Colby is more desirable now.

when your criticism is of the nickname, you don't have much to go on. your obsession is truly strange! did they reject you, PP?

I’m a Midd alum and have no less than 5 friends from college whose kids are at Colby, after having gotten rejected, with legacy status, from Middlebury.

It's got an AA rating, it's doing more than fine.

Is it? Based on what? My kid toured both and liked both, but Midd rose to the top and was his ED choice. Midd's programs in his areas of interest, alum network in his field of interest, gorgeous location, skiing, nature, the cute walkable little town, the yummy food, the investments in its campus, including amazing new dorm, performing arts venue, athletics.... all of this made Midd more desirable than Colby.

What exactly do you think makes Colby more desirable than Midd?

here's the Middlebury hater just making up weird claims that make no sense.

DP. They aren’t making up anything. It’s the same concept - have kids start in the second semester, when more beds and space are available on campus. That way, they can greatly increase the amount of households paying the school tuition. Northeastern uses this strategy to fulfill their goal of rapidly climbing in prominence. It’s obvious Middlebury keeps “Feb” around because they are in some sort of trouble.

It's the sock puppet striking again.

I’m on your side but this is pretty poor reasoning. Colby has DavisConnects and a strong alumni backing, a new dorm, new performing arts venue, new art studios and centers in their town, pretty much the best D3 athletic center in the country, and soon a new science complex and innovation center. They seem pretty even, if anything.

Colby is in a spending frenzy. I just want an answer to one question: Why haven't they publicly released a common data set since 2016? What are they hiding? Just release it and squash the rumors.
