Common baby names you dislike

Those names are people's names, too.

Yes, both are mean.

It's not inherently mean to say that you dislike a name. I don't like the name Ezra. I don't like the sound, I don't like saying it, I just don't like it. Does that mean that I don't like your child named Ezra? Or that I don't like you for naming your son Ezra? Nope, I can still like you, and him, even if the name does nothing for me.

Agree. Nicely worded.

And your opinion is so strong about this that you just have to be heard? You weren't raised right.

enough already with these overused names!

Ohhh! I loved Isabella since I was a child. I always wanted to name my daughter Isabella. Now it is WAY too popular. Ugh.

Why do people who dislike the theme of a thread read it? The title could not be more clear about the content of this thread. If you're reading it to tell people they're mean for saying they dislike a certain name, it's duly noted. We, the "mean" people, acknowledge your distress and have decided to forge on with our "meaness." You've done your duty to try to set us on the right path. Go in peace.

And I dislike the name Lydia. For no real reason.

Me too! And Melissa.

Absolutely love the name Lydia.

I have a Jack and don't find it offensive that some people dislike it. We didn't name him for other people!

I've always loved Jill but I can't have a Jack and Jill.

I hate the name Danielle because I knew a mean Danielle in elementary school. Can't hear the name without thinking about that nasty brat.

I love the names Ebenezer, Adolf and, for a girl, Petunia!

Come on, it's a guilty pleasure. I have plenty of friends with kids whose names I don't like but I would never ever tell them to their faces. Because it's not polite. Because it's not nice. Because I don't imagine they give a rat's ass about what I think of their kids' names (nor should they). So instead I posted it here. Because sometimes it's fun to be rude. Or snarky.

Sorry if that makes you mad. It really shouldn't matter that much. If you like your kids' names, that's all that matters. Lighten up.

Also don't care for names that scream "my parents tried so hard to be different they saddled me with an awful name"

This - combined with parents who choose 500 year old ancient Gaelic spellings that are almost unpronounceable in the English language. (And they're always mad when people can't pronounce their children's names!)

I know someone who named their daughter Caoilainn. Or something to that effect. It's apparently one of those old Irish names. I forget how it's pronounced but I can tell you it's nothing like the actual English usage of the letters in the name. Why oh why would you do that to your kid?

We have a ton of "John" grandparents, great grandparents, uncles on both sides. Our son's given name is "John" to honor them--but his nickname is "Jack". This is common in Northeast/Irish communities-- ala JFK, JackNicholoson, etc.

He's 5 and I have been surprised that in every daycare, preschool we've been at...he's been the only "jack" in the class....not even a "jackson' which I despise by the way.

I don't mind it as a nickname, it just seemed that, all of a sudden, everyone was naming their kid "Jack" as their formal name.

I don't like names that are really titles. Like Bishop or Deacon or Prince or Duchess, etc.
