2025 Girls Academy Winter Showcase (CA)

If you were just at the GA showcase, would you say it was worth it why or why not? Looking for some actual experiences not typical bashing. Plenty of other threads for your unhelpful comments.

It is worth it. College exposure is definitely there. But $20 parking fee at the fields is a real ripoff IMO.

I would say from our experience, the fields are in bad shape. Even the turf fields are not great (they are old, worn and hard), but turf was way better than the grass fields. Maybe one or two of the grass fields were ok (and GA made sure those got the social posts), but the fields are in rough shape which make for poor soccer.

The experience, GA does a great job with that. Scouts, i thought there were more this year than in past, but there were some that left after the first day or two to head to ECNL from what our manager told us as they were talking to the scouts on the first two days.

The weather was obviously better than ECNL, but i think they really have to consider better complex from a field standpoint. I know MSLNEXT had Arizona, but if you are going to go West, the Arizona complex is the best one.

I understand you live vicariously through your child and I know the girls side there are good. But can you just stay in your lane and stop feeling the need to flex in a GA thread?

Because they’re actually the staple org in NOVA? Perpetually putting players in top tier colleges and youth national team?

Loudoun/NVA of VRSC can only dream of a fraction of this success. But hey, if your focus on being a for profit and paying directors almost half of what POTUS makes then you get what you get. Cope harder.

Our club has been impressed with coach/scouting opportunities. We're newer to GA and it's a ton a better than the old USYS world.

This is a genuine, non troll question. If you are from the DMV then you were probably with a team that didnt do well or was so far down the list that I am curious if you felt there was still good exposure? Also, I recognize people say that showcases is about the individuals so perhaps team performance really doesnt matter, but you have to believe that stronger universities will watch the stronger teams and occasionally go out of their way for select players. Is this hypothesis accurate or was the college exposure pretty consistent?

Since we're new, we're not setting the world afire and it's been a struggle against top teams but even so some of our harder-working/blue-chip teams/players got seen/a ton more opportunity than E64, in comparison (where we were doing far better in the league/events).

Arent you missing almost a week of school for this, talking to you VRSC, loudoun and NVA. Most of your teams are playing pretty far down and clearly the timing of this tournament was sent to start towards the conclusion of ecnl. The weather looks good. Some fields good and some fields crappy, intentional aerial shots only showing some fields. But good luck nevertheless. Appreciate your kids working for mine in 10 years.

Says the guy who's kid is in Kansas for an ECNL event at same time. Or are you a parent of a kid who did not make team in either league?
the only issue is Nova has too many top teams diluting talent. So they rarely are able to compete with teams at national level.

That’s just BS. The local teams are doing fine this weekend and even some that have struggled are doing decent in KC/CA. It’s as diluted here as just about anywhere else.
not BS.. truth…NOVA should be producing teams that are in quarters and semis annually. They arent

For teams to compete at that level, there needs to be a single team or two that talent is migrating into, and that happens: VDA & FCV 06s, FCV 07s, VDA 08s & 09s, Arl 11s. Dropping the bottom few local ECNL/GA teams, which are able to compete at national events, won’t make that top 1 or 2 teams better.
nope. You got top girls spread across too many teams. VDA FCV Arl benefited from NVAs move to GA last season which shows they lacked talent. Make a super team from SYC NVA VDA ARL FVU ALex.. and that team would year in and out always be a post season team across all age group. Now we just have badge chasing parents.

VDA 08 (natl semis) had ALREADY pulled girls from NVA, when they still were ECNL including one headed to FSU and one to VT, not to mention the girls from FCV who went to VDA - one going to ND, one going to Penn St (09). All of that happens organically…talent migrates. Collapsing the number of teams gives LESS opportunity. One of those girls started travel on Loudoun’s 3rd or 4th team, but was able to move to a 1st team GA/Girls DA team, develop, and now is one of the top players in the country. Why would you want a player like that stuck in a program that couldn’t see her potential?
no it elevates the club and gets them on a coaches radar. Most of the players you mentioned I can assure you got little to any scholarship money to play. Are treated like walks on and eventually quit. It’s very rare for a 4th team kid to suddenly be the best in the country. So let’s be more realistic. Until you see a club across multiple age group consistently winning it pretty meaningless.

Just stop. You are talking completely out of your a$$. 2 of the 3 08s spent this past summer with the u17 National team; They were in the final 24/final roster, including 1 that was 3rd/4th team when she first started travel.
no pretty much spot on. You are pretty much talking out of your rear talking about a low probability situation. Let me know how successful those players are.. lol..

They are doing fine, clown.

COMBINED U.S. U-19 AND U-18 WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM DEFEATS IRELAND, 1-0, ON LATE GOAL FROM AUDREY MCKEEN

https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2025/10/combined-us-u-19-u-18-womens-national-team-ireland-late-goal-audrey-mckeen

keep trying.. pivot pivot…. Very defensive of majority of kids not succeeding because of diluted talent. again Nova teams dont do well at national level.
You said those girls are “walk ons”. You clearly don’t know anything about the top players/teams in this area at the age groups that matter (u16-u19). It invalidates your point, because the top players migrate to the top team(s) and do fine nationally and collegiately. Plenty of girls on the “lesser” teams have the opportunity to play in college, if they want to.
no i didnt say they were walk ons. I said they get treated like walkons as they get little to no scholarships money. Be eyeful of clubs flexing college signings. They aren't what you think they are. And no most top girls do not migrate to one team. As friends and distance generally leads them to pick convenience.

Also a player on VDA 19 that was on VSA’s third team at U12 several players that were on PWSI/VSA until u15 and were promoted to VDA. Also, every player on that team is getting significant scholarship money to play in college. There are no “walk-on’s”.

None of them succeed in college because of dilution? There are 2 VDA players in tonight’s national championship that are starters (freshman and sophomore), 1 Bethesda starter, and a Union player that will probably play as a sub. DMV is well represented.

I’m very familiar with the team and players.
. Someone cant read.. they are treated as walk ons. The signing days you see are mostly a farce.

Or are we happy because the rapid expansion will give us an edge when private equity takes over all and forces a merger leaving us with the upper hand? Do you want rapid expansion with over dilution so when private equity takes over you have a larger market share, or do you want less expansion, meaning more competitive teams?
less expansion. As you can see with VRSC getting destroyed they dont have enough talent across all age groups.

Interestingly GA was smaller than ECNL until this year where they now have about the same number of clubs.

I hope GA bumps the breaks a little this year and doesn't add another 20-25 clubs. Continuing to grow doesn't always mean making something better.

I hope they continue adding clubs and making opportunities available for more and more players.

More clubs wont change who the top clubs are in the league.
