A down year? You are probably the same person that has trolled the BSC thread with this stupidity. Get a life and look at the difficulty of their league competition as they “rank” nationally. The team’s prior coach was horrendous and the new coach practically had to start from scratch.

Prior coach horrendous? Practically started from scratch? I see KL's mom is on here. I don't recall last years team losing to some of the "difficult" league teams Pipeline or Maryland United last year and smashed Ukrainian Nationals 5-0. Just because they played differently last year, doesn't mean the coach was horrendous. If you compared their results and the outrageous behavior from the sidelines this year, many would say this years coach is "horrendous".

How does KL’s playing style differ from last year’s coach? I understand difference in sideline behavior, but what’s different on the pitch?

From my perspective, KL tells them what to do constantly and his way is the only way. It becomes predictable and good team figure them out quickly (even the not so good ones). When mistakes are made a verbal lashing is coming, thus creating fear and little to no decision making on their own. The other coach allowed them to play and “to figure it out”. This empowered them to make decisions. They may have not made the right decision but it was “their” decision to make. A teachable moment where the player learns through her decisions not from being constantly told what to do. At the end of the day, it’s “their” (players) game. The other coach was not perfect, no doubt but you can’t say that he didn’t allow them to play. A there was a more team like and happier atmosphere and they all cared about one another.

This is right on KL. Good coach but it’s his way or the highway.

I wish my DD’s coach would give his players some direction and let then know when they made the right or wrong decision more often. It’s a team sport where players have specific responsibilities and they’re not going to learn what they should and should not do by osmosis.

You don't think they know? They know their responsibilities and they know when they make a mistake. You don't think her coach speaks to her when she comes off or asks her questions? Highlighting it and putting a spotlight on them does not help and further destroys their self image and makes them less likely to make another decision on her own. You have a lot to learn about girls soccer and how girls view the game. But as long as the girls does what she is told thats ok by you.

This is a silly take and "assumes" there is clear coach/player communication during down time - there isn't. I always ask my girls if/what the coach says to them when they come off, after the game, during practices (especially if they have been making mistakes) - the coach mostly says nothing.

Easy killer. Just asking. Coaching situation makes sense, but not sure league competition explains the gap in results between this and prior BSC U12 E1 teams, or between this and other current E1 teams. Rankings app has them outside top 200, which seems like an outlier for a first team at Bethesda. Will they pick up any players from the 2013s?

Funny, the BSC 2014G E1s last year were never outside the top 200 ever. Hmmm 🤔. Yeah it must be the coach but looks like it’s the current coach, instead. Create an environment of fear and mind games, and you get the results you are seeing now. Last year’s team is broken up by KL and then you blame the previous coach? Pipeline 1-4 and Maryland United 0-2 (I think last year’s team beat them). Struggling in most matches. Pathetic. Play up in a second bracket and still can’t be successful. Stop Blaming a previous coach for this year’s team failures and take responsibility and accountability. This team needs a mentor and leader! Empower and encourage them, not humiliate and destroy them. The emperor (KL, everyone is looking at you) has no clothes and it shows. He needs to Focus on that 2014G second team of his before he loses them too. Rumor has it some are about to bail. Ooppps one just did this week, the smartest thing CB could ever do. But I guess we will blame last year’s coach for that too. Ridiculous. Do better and stop blaming others.

I honestly don't know why ANY of the 2014 E2 players would stay. KL and most Bethesda ECNL coaches are known for never promoting from within the club. A bunch of those girls are more than capable of being E1, and have been in the past, but KL will never bring them up. If he puts you on E2, he sees you as E2 long-term, and he only cares about the top teams. Period. I would be shocked if there was not an exodus.

Very true, I know multiple kids that had to "club hop" to get on the better team even though they were superior to many E1 girls. I also know some girls that were moved up from other club's lower team to BSC E1, even though they were not all that great. Based on my narrow view, this is the only way unless your kid is a phenom accindently placed on the 2nd team.

I could not agree with you more! Fake promises, "bubble" players, etc.

But where else can someone who lives in MC and wants to play at a high level U13 or above go other than BSC, unless they have parents willing and able to drive 90 minutes twice a day?

Potomac's 2014 team was very strong last year, not sure how they are doing this year - in theory, that's one strong team to move to, at least temporarily.

Yes, that's the only "local" alternative to BSC for any 2014 girl. (Potomac is not an alternative for any strong MD girls for other birth years, but I know that's irrelevant for this 2014 thread topic.) Anyone exploring their 2014s should be aware that the team is pretty settled at this point and there are already several girls on the team who barely get any minutes. Just something to keep in mind, although a super strong player transferring could probably break into the lineup.

Last year Potomac was strong however the lack of technical ability and relying on athleticism is catching up with them. They just went down to NC in NOV to actually play some good teams and got Rick rolled; 0-3, 0-4, and 1-2. They were on the "struggle" bus and outclassed to be frank. Should have just stayed home and played some friendlies with those kind of results. EDP is not helping their cause either. Bang average teams to include 2015s, hindering player development. Might want to look across the river in VA.

Any VA clubs already planned new age group winter training (for next season u13)? Are they typically internal/ partner club only or open to outside players?

For our club it's too soon for that, but some realigned kids have been to practices sporadically with the new teams. But it just coach dependent and not a club wide status. Looks like kids will wait until the tryouts and start practicing with new teams in earnest this summer.

Both teams play in same league so overall competition is similar (other than age effects), quality of coaching is also similar, and she would start on both teams. Seems to come down to whether it's better to play with and against bigger / faster / stronger players or with teammates who have significantly better skills.

Playing up generally doesn't mean playing against better quality (mostly bigger not faster) if those are your options. My daughter's team wasted an entire spring season "playing up" for the bigger field against just horrible teams to get used to the bigger pitch. I get how some smaller clubs are forced to combine age groups, but you are almost always better playing against the top age competition assuming it's actually available near you.
Most of the teams playing up at u13 are playing mostly 2 or 3rd teams. Take the GA teams, they can’t play GA or Aspire teams so they are in EDP no mans land. Most of their tourneys are the same. Also, there is a reason why most of the world wants to hold off on 11v11 until u14 let alone 10/ 11 year olds. Most parents love the idea of playing up for the perception of an early advantage. However, it’s the long game. IYKYK

This! It irks me so much when parents think their child playing 11v11 is “playing up” at u12.

There are some internal/ partner club practices going on but I believe if your DD plays for a pre-ECNL club you cannot join the practice of another ECNL club until march 1. I didn’t think it applied to pre ECNL but it does. Pre ECNL girls can go check out GA clubs though.

Top 2014G teams in Maryland in order.

SAC Pre Academy 14G
Potomac 14G
BSC 14G

That’s my ranking based off the games I’ve watched. 😎 Everyone else in Maryland would lose to these three teams.

Potomac 14G

That’s my ranking based off the games I’ve watched. 😎 Everyone else in Maryland would lose to these three teams.

Pipeline destroyed BSC 14G 5-1 and Maryland United destroyed them 2-0 this fall! So it think you should rethink that statement. Last year, I would agree with your ranking, however not this year. The wheels have came off the wagon for that BSC team. Looks like a completely different team now.
