The program’s full name is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Benefits are issued electronically through an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card, which works like a debit card.

The old terms “food stamps” or “food coupons” refer to the paper vouchers used before the 2000s, when the system switched to electronic cards.
