This has been pointed out multiple times to Gatehouse. And yet they keep coming back to ask about this option. They clearly are leaning towards this option. I guess they don’t care about families or teachers at those schools.

Well they should care. I currently teach at a late ES and by 3:45, all I can do is a read aloud cause my kids are done. No kid will be effectively learning till 4:35. When kids are not making adequate progress because they aren’t available for learning, maybe they will care.

I'm incensed with the SB for lots related to the boundary review and programming, but making the start times change is in line with their responsibilities.

No, and no.

It is not possible for most high school sports and high commitment activities like marching band and the school musicals

and it is not just a problem for practices

Many sports and performances don't end until after 10PM. The teachers, directors and coaches often are there until almost 11PM.

Would you like the high schoolers to finish after 11PM and their coaches and directors at school until midnight?

Changing the schedule to appease the new 7th grade parents (because really, those are the only people complaining about early start times) is one of the stupidest ideas this school board ever came up with in their sea of stupid ideas.

Isn't there an option to just keep the status quo?

Status quo is preferred option - 30 minutes is not enough to make all the negative impacts

No, the closest you can get to it is by choosing option “Neither” in the survey.

To be clear, no one knows exactly who is advocating for these start times except a handful of "sleep experts" who aren't the ones who'd be impacted by this decision. Every single thread on this subject, every survey, every person I talk to in real life says "just leave it alone."

MS know they will be out of school before this is implemented. They are not ones complaining and not ones wanting change. Stop blaming MS parents and look to School Board who have taken more than 10 years on an initiative and continue to flail on it.

There was no option for "it's fine the way it is, middle school is only 2 years long"

- Mom of a 7th grader who literally said today "you know, mom, waking up early isn't as bad as you said it would be"

HAHAHAHAHA that you think this is driven by any parents. This is driven by middle school teachers. There are A LOT of them and these hours don't work for them, especially not the ones with children. THIS. IS. ABOUT. TEACHERS.

Is this a joke? My daughter has games all weekend, literally the only time to meet for GS is immediately after school on a week day. Sports practices start as early as 5:00.

When I say only new 7th grader parents are complaining, I literally mean new (1st born child) 7th grade parents who complain each new school year about the early start time.

It goes away after a couple of weeks, except for the kids who are up all night on their phones and can't wake up. 30 minutes later or 2 hours later or the exact same time won't make a difference for those kids, because they are up all night on their phones.

Next year, the cycle will repeat with new 7th grade parents.

It is such a stupid, disruptive change to make for a few weeks of middle school angst each fall from a handful of parents

No, it is not about middle school teachers.

Middle school teachers want to keep the current schedule. Ask them. They are starting to get vocal about not wanting to change.

The elementary teachers REALLY do NOT want this change.

This is all bullshit. Focus on the kids buy the godcdammed buses so middle school can start whenever you want. Don’t move ES times. If you can afford the busses don’t change everyone’s schedule and so many years and tax payer money.
