Read this on reddit, it's really crazy. What a rollcoaster! lol Eventually he got in his dream school.

Craziest College Admissions Process
For everyone applying to college in 2026 call admissions process actually made me spiritual.

I always wanted to ed to Duke, but my college counselor told me to not throw away my ed. So I applied to Vandy ed (I don’t know why he thought that would be safer). I got rejected from Vandy. Had an awful rest of the process. I ended up only getting into CU Boulder, Lehigh, Lafayette, and Wake Forest. I committed to Wake Forest and hated it. I cried during admitted students day, but then two weeks later got off the umich waitlist. I thought it was destiny and I bought so much gear. Then, I got off the washu waitlist, but I decided to stick with michigan because I was OBSESSED. Finally, every waitlist I was on closed. So I was 100% going to michigan. Fast forward to yesterday, I was at Michigan orientation and I got an email saying the Duke waitlist was reopening. This morning, July 30th, I got off the waitlist and am committed to Duke. Don’t give up on your dreams and apply to Duke.

I went to Duke in the mid-90s and there were a few large doubles in my freshman dorm on East (which is now the freshman campus) that were turned into triples - not ideal, but not awful, and the ones I recall were women.

It sounds like this was not just a few but they took quite a few more kids. Duke has really grown its international population in recent years and it seems to be coming back to bite them.

I hate to say it as things will likely change a lot in the next few years, but as the parent of a full pay legacy who will likely be applying ED in a few years, this is not the worst thing in the world for my child's chances.

You do seem selfish.

Wow. I guess your Duke education didn’t teach you to think broadly and allow you to understand what is going on with the takeover of education.

I did not say I was happy about it. I would much rather my kid didn't get in and Trump was not president and we returned to normal. I was just being realistic and somewhat sarcastic. Some people seem to struggle with nuance. They teach that at Duke - UWC. 8 am. So much fun.

Everyone can be a critic and a comedian when they are anonymous. So sad.

This could have a trickle down effect. Kids trade up to Duke and leave a different school behind. So suddenly that school has slots to fill. And so on. Everyone's budget gets thrown off, though I guess a lot of the schools losing kids have at least some portion of tuition locked in.

This Friday? Then they only have less than one day (international defer deadline 7/31) to process? I doubt it.
