As the parent of a kid that really really wanted Duke and didn’t get in, this thread is enraging. |
Why? |
yeah why? |
DP but I assume because it hurts all over again to have been rejected when hearing about so many people getting called off the waitlist this late. |
This is an absurd comment. What does anyone have to be enraged about? You're mad waitlists exist? You're mad Duke still has spots to fill and there are certain kids they'd like to fill them? Your kid didn't get in or get the waitlist. And there's schools (s)he got into and got on the waitlist for (presumably). Should other parents be enraged by that? Like what are you talking about. |
cameron crazies shuffling through zombie land. |
Sorry to read this. Understandable. Was your student accepted to other schools about which he/she is excited ? If yes, then that is all that really matters. If no, then have him or her contact Duke admissions. A year or two ago, several students rejected by an elite MBA program were contacted after the MBA program experienced a low yield of accepted students and asked if they (the rejected students contacted) were still interested. (I cannot recall which MBA program, but I'll try to Google it.) My point is that anything is possible and if your student really is upset, then fight for what he/she wants. (May receive strong encouragement to reapply next year or better.) |
this makes zero sense. it means there was a priority waitlist and your kid wasn't on it. no drama. it sucks to be rejected or have a "softer" rejection or whatever - but other kids getting into duke off a waitlist is not enraging. happy for the kids who got unexpected good news - must be a thrill! |
Why? Your kid must not be on the waitlist. |
Yea it’s wishful thinking on your part too. You can’t really think that your kid suddenly has an appreciably better chance of getting into Duke because of this year’s insanity, do you? Even as a legacy? Nope. |
NP: Did they say that? No. Horse is dead. Stop beating it. |
Exactly, DP, it's a crime to be human here sometimes. |
Yes, they did say that. Or at least as much. |
I disagree, but either way, I think that discussion ended about 100 posts ago. They said they were being sarcastic. They know that statistically the impact is virtually zero. Move on. Lighten up, Francis. In trying to show how smart you are, you are just showing how anal and dumb you are. Everyone who comes here to take other people down really should get a life (and note that I am defensively taking you down, which is different from initiating it like you did). So much of the shallow end of the gene pool posts here. OMFG. |
Yeah....but, enraging?? Getting a rejection letter from Duke at any point in time should not be enraging, for anyone. That's the point of reaches-for-all. All applicants may get the rejection letter. Not sure what late has to do with it. It would make some sense if your kid was actually on the waitlist, and not called. |
