We aren’t feds and we’re currently employed, but I see the writing on the wall. I don’t imagine there is a good future for my kids in the USA, especially DC at this time. I recognize how privileged we are to be able to do this, and honestly I don’t want to move my family overseas but I think it’s for the best.

This is my boycott of the US. I’m absolutely disgusted by what’s happening and I don’t want my tax dollars to support it.

Do you think their future will be any better in Europe? No snark, honestly asking if you believe it will be and why? If you read news and have family friends or any work or social affiliations in Europe, you will hear the disappointments in Europe and want to move out, just as you are thinking to move from US of A.

I am very concerned about the administration’s anti-female, anti-science, anti-intellectual, anti-gay, anti-poor, anti-democratic … stances. I honestly don’t know where the better place to be is, but for now I’ll place my bets on the EU versus the US.

If I’m wrong, we’ll come back. We are lucky to have these options—for now anyway.

Have you lived there? Or any other country? You prob haven't if you think the anti-xyz situations are better elsewhere. The U.S. is becoming "rest of the world."

There’s a lot of variety in the “rest of the world”. There are several countries that are far more advanced than here in many regards. This is no longer a free or fair country. Someone needs to rewrite the national anthem.

Oof. Sounds like leaving the US is a great choice for you. I personally don’t want someone with your attitude or values here.

I personally find it strange you feel such ire toward people who are leaving the U.S. Too bad you personally don't get to decide who lives where. I personally don't like to interact with people who are judgmental ass3s, but maybe I'll stick around this country a while longer so that you can continue to school me with your superior attitude and values. USA! USA!

Just spoke with a college student who will be finishing his degree here, but applying ONLY to graduate programs in Europe, specifically because he “hates trump.”

Apparently trump is rather, “unpopular” maybe? on college campuses around here.

But anyway, yes, that person absolutely will flee the USA.

I only know younger people, under 30, who are fleeing the DC area to take remote jobs and live where they want to.

Liar. But I love that you want us to believe you. So pathetic.

Lol. Okay, if it makes you feel better. It was a dream of theirs made more urgent by the current environment. But doubt away, you cynic, you!

Yeah - I noticed FCPS is soliciting feds who have been laid off / RIF’d / let go as probationaries to come work for the county.

Have they hired many people so far?

MCPS is also doing this, and trying to fast track them to become teachers.

If you don’t believe the simple reality that people will move after being let go by .gov then I don’t know what to say to you.

HHS is only one department. The federal employee presence in the DC area is enormous.

And there are a gazillion other jobs within 20 miles of the White House. On Indeed right now there are over 400 openings for the job I do. Bunch of crybabies.

No locals are taking those jobs. Those are for Iowans who think they've made in getting a job in DC for $60K!!! (CAN YOU BELIVE IT??!!) a year lol little do they know....

If aliens unlawfully present in the U.S. will soon be returning (or will be returned) to their countries, couldn’t displaces area workers find lots of employment opportunities doing cleaning work or lawn care?

So, how does this work exactly? The local government pays them, taxes their income, and then pays them, and taxes them, and ...

This has been discussed ad naseum on this site...the reason those workers are/were here in the first place is 1. look at what a certain country's "foreign" policies have done to the countries from where the workers come- they are wanting or out of necessity to flee their home country, 2. Had you or any fellow Americans wanted those types of jobs? Isn't that why workers from those countries were "allowed" to come to America? Do you think now that folks do not have a Fed job, they are going to do the jobs they didn't want in the first place? The jobs that doesn't require a college degree and some people who have been let go from their job have a or multiple higher level degrees. Could see some people who don't have a job to do lawn care as a hobby job and maybe they will until they find another job again. Maybe you would like to work on Mr Perdue's Indiana farm or picking crops at Mrs.FruitsVeggie's?

No, but we’re considering moving elsewhere for a few years for a job opp. Seems like a good time.

Not yet. I thnk this time next year will be a different story, though.

I think all the DOGE RIFs are going to lead to a massive spike in street crime in D.C.

Hungry people are desperate people.

Phase II plans are due on April 14th (it’s right in the memo. Read it).

Large RIFs will begin soon after.

It’s about to get much, much worse.

OMG. I just read that memo.

They are only in the beginning phases of starting to plan to fire federal workers.

How many people in the DC area actually work for the federal government ?

Same question I had. Is it a lot of people around here?
